Hello all, Ive been cracking on with my Ancients re-base this week, and last night finished off the first units. These were all based up for DBA, but ive made the switch to Impetus.
Heres the guard infantry unit, with an attached General. Theres more pictures and info on the project here – link Thanks for looking, steve |

Beautiful painting Steve, the painting is so stunning I'm sure they're 28mm? Are they? I also like you Kappadokian Army, a more obscure amry and it's nice to see one on the table. |

I've been considering a re-base as well. I have triple BBDBA 28mm Alexandrian and Persian armies that haven't seen a lot of use recently. My original plan had been to add enough elements for a game of FoG with them, and that is essentially done, but from what I've read and the one test game I played with FoG, I'm not sure the appeal would be all that great. What factors made you chose impetus over DBA? David |

Thanks for the comments, the miniatures are Xyston 15mm. I chose Impetus because it is just a great game. DBA is OK, don't get me wrong, but its very simplistic, and the armies just don't look like armies
. In Impetus the rules are pretty simple, but very clever, there is a lot more to it than DBA. The best part about Impetus (from a painting point of view) is the nice large bases. Your totally free to make a diorama on each base, if you want to. The troops don't all have to be ranked up in an artificial way, with x amount of figures. Steve |

DBX style basing works for Impetus too

The shields decals are from Little big man studios – link I think that the base sizes were designed with accommodating the DBX bases, so you could just have 4 DBX bases together to make an Impetus unit. Which works fine. Steve |

Steve Great colours – I did like the Guard infantry with attached General. The Takabara also came out very well – especially their shields. We are playing Hail Caesar and WAB so options for Impetus basing are there as well. Garry |

Nicely done Steve, another Impetus army up and running
..good to see ( must look much better now ? ). Those Xyston chaps are very nice indeed, great paint job helps
..superb. Richard |

Im planning on using these armies for Hail Caesar too at some point. Ill just need to either fudge the command rules, or just make up some more command stands. Thanks Tartyy, they do look much better on their new bases. Steve |

Lovely painting
I confess I too am a fan of those Kappadokians! :-) One thing though, which I've come across time and time again
and don't get me wrong, both DBA and Impetus have their relative merits
but what's to stop anyone using larger bases for DBA as well as for Impetus? It's something that in all 2o-odd years of DBA's existence still baffles me a little, especially when many repeated objections to DBA that I have come across seem expressed explicitly in relation to the small size of the element bases and the small numbers of figures which as you say – "don't look like armies". I don't understand why more people haven't made the connection between DBA and simply using more figures on larger bases with revised (and proportionately larger) measurements/distances etc. It really does make quite a difference to one's perception of the game. |

badlydressedhob: I agree completely. I thought of this before when considering changing from DBA to Impetus for that very reason. I'm not sure why this idea hasn't caught on with the community, but once I get an army on the larger bases I'll be sure to give it a go and see how it works out. |

Sorry for the slightly late reply, i have played DBA with larger bases, and agree that people should maybe try it out. I have used 6mm WOTR armies on a 60mm frontage many times.
Heres some of my Yorkists! Steve. |

That ! looks amazing Steve nicely done and some good DBA lateral thinking. Nothing wrong with DBA as the others here have pointed out, good game and that it's still being played a lot says it all. David
What factors made you chose impetus over DBA? There are a few, but the biggest thing that sealed the deal for me with Impetus is that as you receive casualties ( loss of cohesion ) your ability to inflict damage on others is also diminished
.this I like very much. |

Bigger bases for DBA -like this -works for Impetus too. I really like both systems. link |
