Here are some of the Old Glory limited edition 28mm French in shako, painted by Dennis Smail, and residing in my collection. These were sculpted by the late Dave Alsop and were issued, I think, in the early 1990s, maybe late 1980s. They don't call me Old Fritz for nothing – memory loss.

At any rate, these are wonderful figures that have stood the test of time and I think that they look as good as anything on the market today.

They do look good!

I am painting Old Glory British infantry in stovepipe shakos at the moment. They look a bit goofy in bare metal but already starting to come alive with some paint on them.

Dave Allsop was a great sculptor and a sad loss. Great figures DAF and beautiful painting. Thanks for sharing these with us all.

P.S where can you buy these figures from, today? Who owns the moulds as IIRC back in the mists of time didn't OG sell them on?

I have and still love Dave's ACW and French Naps. The ACW line captured the "texture" of the uniforms and were a Don Trioni painting come to life. He was a nice guy and a great sculptor.

I think that if you ask Russ at Old Glory nicely, he might be able to spin off a few more sets of the old Alsop figures. They were terrific and they were the figures that got me into gaming the ACW and Napoleonic eras.

Really a storming formation. I wasn't even aware this range existed.
I was trying to find more examples on the web but failed badly.

Did Dave also do those amazing 1st-gen Old Glory Austrians, that you can't get anymore?

Yes, he did the Austrians and also some fine Russians in bicorne and shako and mitre. I will post some Russian pix soon.

DAF,
I saw these at Emperors HDQ's when they first came out back in the early 1990's.

What are you using for commands for the Russians? As Allsop died prior to completing any of the commands for those Russian units.

Also TMP menber Nashville has posted a Dave Allsop French box set a few times in the Napoleonic Market for sale. The box sets were numbered as I remember.

I use the officers and drummers and standard bearers from the Elite Miniatures range of figures. They match up very well with the Alsop Russians.

Why don't they sell these anymore? This has always, confused me.

I have friends who would sell their mothers for some of the original Austrians.

Send then on to me, I am pretty sure I have some of the original Austrians charging in helmets.

Of course, having just moved, finding them might take a little time, but I'm always willing to help the cause!

I recall a thread on these boards a couple of years ago about these early OG figures and that they were being made available again by the manufacturer, in fact people were ordering them. I sent an email and it was confirmed that French were available, I don't know if they are the same figures, but for those interested in might be worth asking OG. I don't expect that they broke the moulds, so to speak, unless they were in fact some sort of limited edition as such. It might be that they were a different range.

I recall that thread, too, and I think the upshot was that if you call OG and ask real nice, they'll pull the molds out and give them a few spins. But I've not tried it, myself.
