Can some one provide a link or some advice on preparing a verlinden resin 200mm bust for assembley and painting?

My main concern is getting rid of the large, thick pieces of excess resin attached to the parts. I was suprised by these.

Also, I understand a mask is need when working around resin dust. Are we talking a simple gauze mask or a painters type respirator?

TIA

Skyking, you shouldn't need a respirator, as the issue is not fumes but rather the dust that is generated from sanding resin. A mask should be sufficient.

To remove those resin stumps, I've often just used a new Xacto blade and shaved them down, and then finished up with a file to sand the area flat. I've also used a dremel tool with a sanding drum head to do the job quickly, again finishing with a hand file so I don't go too far.

It is often recommended that you wash the pieces before assembly, using warm soapy water, to remove the agents that help the resin separate from the mold, since they can negatively impact the paint. I confess I've usually skipped that step, and never had any problems. Maybe it's just luck. Using a good primer helps though of course…

Hope that's helpful – James
