The Thirty Years War and beyond is one of my favourite periods. I play DBR for its speed, and avoid FOG:R for its lack of it. Even so, neither to me really capture the formations and tactics of the period (and highlighted by some excellent TMP threads) or the difficulty of command and control (a core element of Ga Pa that another recent TMP thread has put me onto), nor most of all that refined commanders of armies then prefer games of Cards over Dice.

The file linked below is a turn's combat example for shooting and melee of alpha rules for Got Mitt Uns. The reason for using a cards (or d10) over the traditional D6(s) was an acquisition of Freebooters Fate and the nice set of cards that they have.

Interesting. I think i like where these are going. Especially the card mechanism.

The next example will be Breitenfeld and Lutzen Swedish Brigade vs Imperial 'tercio'. The models are on the testing table… time is needed.
