Hi All,

we have had some venue issues for littlewars 2013 and have gone to our fall back position of Mornington Secondary College (the place where we have run a bunch of mega games)

The plan is to run it on Saturday from 10am until late (with setup on Friday night).[Last saturday in may or first in june]

Big advantages are space…its at least double the size and availability (early setup and late exit)…of course on the down side no beer!

The question is will people come (given its geographic location and lack of decent public transport)

Any feedback is very welcome.

I think you will lose a lot of people who have to travel from the west and north of Melbourne. Poor public transport will keep a few away too. Still, likely pick ip a few more from SE suburbs who normally wouldn't go?

trailape28 Feb 2013 11:57 p.m. PST

I agree with what Grey Robin said.
Have you thought about approaching 2/10 REGT on Chapel St?
It would be a FANTASTIC venue.

Alan Lauder01 Mar 2013 6:16 a.m. PST

Totally understand your venue issues … but holding it in Mornington makes me a 30% likely to attend rather than a 90% likely. if it were more central. Won't be the same without blonde beer and bratwurst. Is Club Tivoli totally out of the picture – I liked it there despite the space issues.

I second trying the 2/10 REGT on Chapel St – used to meet there with a reeaactment society. Great venue. Parking might be a bit tough, though.

shelldrake01 Mar 2013 2:11 p.m. PST

Even though I live nearer Mornington that Melbourne, having to reply of the poor public transport in my area would kill my chances of attending.

Frankston would be easier – there are some halls around that can be hired – happy to suggest some if wanted.

thabear01 Mar 2013 2:52 p.m. PST

First: all thanks for putting on this event once again.
Second : Chapel st is a nightmare to get through on a Saturday morning and then have to park a car close by .Your Mornington venue sounds good so far.
Most people attending will get there by car no matter wher eit is held. So i would have thought parking , public transport and space inside would be a premium requisite. I dont think distance to or from Melbourne is an issue. If people want to go to the event they will get there by hook or by crook and if they dont have a car there is enough time to plan ahead.
Ask the local school or Scout Association to put on a sausage sizzle out the front , they'll make a fortune because we're gamers and we'll eat anything.
Is there a similiar post on Wargamer AU ?

There is a wargamerau post, but nobody has replied to it – probly cos it's hard to find in the vic tourney subsection:

We're just trying to sound out opinion on running Little Wars at Mornington. We've spent close to 12 months looking around at alternative venues and have not had much help or success from LGA halls/venues, RSL's, ethnic clubs etc. Tivoli is still an option (have booked it) but, given that it's so close to late-May/early-June (because we took so much time looking around), it'll be hard to organise traders to come – and we rely on them to help pay for the rent of Tivoli's rooms.

Mornington offers some interesting possibilities – can setup Friday night; a LOT of space offers opportunities for people to pull out their own games, grab a spare table and play something (breakout areas); more space offers opportunities to do a flea-market or something similar; can be a more relaxed day where people can spread out and take their time about things, can play games late into Saturday night!

BUT, we realise it's a long way away. And it's hard to get to. And it's a Saturday (footy-day etc). Which is why we're interested in hearing people's opinions as to whether or not we should do it. Of course, any other suggestions for venues are ALWAYS appreciated. For eg. is there a website or contact for 2/10 regt, trailape/get-me-sennett?

baxterj01 Mar 2013 5:41 p.m. PST

For a once a year show, I am happy to drive down to Mornington. I know that the guys have looked high and low for a suitable option and if this is what they have decided, fine with me.

Sorry, hongihika, it's been too long for me to have any contacts for 2/10 regt. Thinking more about it, the parking (or lack of) puts it out of the question in my mind. I can see the many benefits of the flexibility of the Mornington venue – still prefer Tivoli but appreciate your position. Most important thing is Little Wars keeps going.

I would still go, infact having more people set up there own games would improve Little Wars.

Nic Robson04 Mar 2013 12:10 a.m. PST

Great news that so many of you will attend, as we have booked the show! It will take place on 25th May between 10am and 10pm.
Please contact me at Eureka Miniatures if you would like further information.

Venue?
Is it safe to assume it will be at the Mornington Secondary College?
Cheers

It is indeed!

mmmm a little drive from Sunny Goulburn…..I will see if there is any local interest

hongihika06 Mar 2013 5:54 a.m. PST

Hey Bluewillow, not sure if you remember me – bought some Copplestone figs and ninjas off you at Cancon. It was good to meet you! I'm actually looking at using those ninjas for our SAGA samurai games at LWM. Be great if you guys could make it, see some of your games, widen the wargaming networks and all that.

Website has had an update:

littlewarsmelbourne.com

Thanks to Dagorlad/Alan for his awesome banners.

Have about 16 games confirmed, so far, and quite a few traders coming. We're also looking at options for changing around some of the bring n buy to more of a fleamarket setup – we'll see. Of course, we have plenty of room for people to bring their own games/boardgames/rpg to play on the day. If anyone has an idea for a participation game they would like to tryout, please let us know – the more people, the better!

Dagorlad07 Mar 2013 4:58 a.m. PST

I'll do my best to be there this year, but it'll mean flying over from Adelaide and not being able to put a game on.

I'll have to bum a lift from someone down to the venue since there's negligible public transport.

AussieAndy18 Mar 2013 8:11 p.m. PST

Congratulations on again staging this great event.

I will be there, even though I have to come from north of the Yarra. I'm already booked in to run a game.

Don't forget that the new Frankston bypass will speed up the trip to Mornington, at least for those with cars.

Perhaps those without cars could post here or on the website to see if they can find lifts to Mornington.

Regards
