"The history of the Sea King, an aircraft in action since 1969, which was piloted by Prince Andrew during the Falklands conflict and more recently by Prince William. John Sergeant meets people whose lives have been changed by the iconic helicopter's search-and-rescue capacity and salutes its service to the nation."

Enjoy

I`ll have a look, was Prince Andrew a Lynx pilot?

He definitely flew Seakings. I was on the flight-deck of the Fort Austin in San Carlos when he landed on for a refuel.

didn't learn that much about Sea Kings, but an interesting programme nonetheless. Mostly emotive stuff about rescues and even the combat role was focused on the rescue/survival/reliability side of things. Good bit of flag waving, but none the worse for that.

Andrew was definitely a Sea King pilot and did his stink as an Exocet decoy in the conflict.

What saddens me about the Sea King going out is that I was working on the aircraft they replaced when they came in to RAF service. Grief, I feel old.

I spent a happy, but generally cold and damp month with 'B' Flt, 202 Sqn, as a 'Target, Floating, SAR (Live)'.

Presumably to decoy the Exocet's little-known smell-homing capability.

All the best,

John.
