An inviting field of battle, hundreds and hundreds of figures, good friends, fine refreshments . . . does it get any better than this? August 1813, south of Dresden, several divisions vie for control of the Elbe River crossings. A photo AAR of the action is on my Flickr page here: link Regards, Jeff |

Wonderful is right! Everything about your Saturday was superb, from the whiskey to the minis to the terrain. Very nice AAR, and I appreciate the embedded comments. |

Sorry, VonTed. I usually do toss a sample into my post. I don't know what came over me. @grenadier corporal – You mean the table? There's a set on my Flickr page that shows how I put the table together: link |

@grenadier corporal – here's how to build the table: link |

Jeff, I do not recognize the rules used. Could explain further? I take these are ~1:20 tactical? MG |

The latex product you used on the table cloth – can you give me a product name please. Cheers. |

Just curious, how do you store the ground cloth. Outstanding work, btw. |

marshalGreg: Napoleonic Command 1st Edition was published in 1996, and is out of print. The 2nd Edition will be published soon ("soon" being a relative term, depending entirely on how long it takes me to get it fomatted exactly the way I want it). Not so much "tactical" as "grand tactical", and no figure scale. Some further details here: TMP link Brian Smaller: I use "Alex Plus" Acrylic Latex Caulk plus Silicone. Kevin: Sometimes I roll it up, other times I just fold it into a pillow-sized bundle and throw it in the back of the closet. Doesn't seem to matter much. |

Wonderful looking table and game. It looks very realistic. It appears that the officers in the mess have a preference for Irish whiskey over single malt Scotch. |

It appears that the officers in the mess have a preference for Irish whiskey over single malt Scotch. Actually, that probably reflects my preferences more than the general consensus of the mess. The Gentlemen Wargamers are not as particular about the location of the distillery as they are about the quality of the final product. |

Gren-corp- I've made two or three of these now myself following War Artisan's instructions. They are very easy to make and worth all the time you put into it. You can do a 6x4 mat in about 8 hours allowing for drying time, flocking, etc. The only hard part is the road work. I might suggest that if you do this to do the roads first, let those dry and then do the fields. Otherwise you'll have flock sticking to the latex of the roads. Even if its dried a bit it's still tacky. Also, if you have one around, use a dust devil to suck up all the extra flock. If you have the right kind you can then empty out the vacuum and reuse it. Otherwise you'll have to contend with all the left over flock lying on top of the parts of the mat you haven't caulked yet! No fun at all! The next time I do one I'm going to try to model forests into the battle mat itself by gluing down finely broken up clump foliage. This is for 3mm games but the map scale will be even smaller, so it should come out looking ok, I hope! |
