Do you game with them, collect them, or both?

for these specifically, just collect. I do game with my other 54s though, mainly ww2

Nice – and since you asked, the button color you are looking for is brass for both officer and enlisted men. Blue kepis obviously, but the issue M1872 broad brimmed hat was black.

If they existed at all, white or light color hats were privately purchased. The neckerchief was also a private purchase from the post sutler's store and were any color or combination thereof, not yellow! Stripes on the pants were a mark of officer or NCO rank (as chevrons weren't worn on shirts)

I seem to remember a figure in buckskins with a long rifle too – mom told me he was a scout; whether he was part of the same series, I don't know. I was in hospital at the time and she used to buy them and bring them in for me one at a time to cheer me up (it worked!) They were way more interesting than the plain, unpainted ones I had at home with my toy fort. BTW I do remember the flag on my original guy was painted as the stars & stripes!

Thanks for sharing the memories!
