So, my friend Mark loaned me Seymour's book on the Pennsylvania Associators.
Naturally, he wants me to paint up some figures for them.
I opined that any militia figures would no.
Oh, no! He wants the brown coats and "round hats"!

Well, OK. I am always eager to paint up new regiments and battalions for the AWI.
Any recommendations for the short coat and "round hat"? 25/28mm of course.
I would even go with an ordinary coat and that hat.
A battalion or two should satisfy him. grin

Old Glory Continental Marines should be perfect. I use them for some of the Virginia regiments that wore round hats.

Whatever happened to them after Princeton ? If I thought that they took part in the 1777 Philadelphia campaign then I would add them to my range.

In 1777, Pennsylvania passed an actual Militia Law, and the Associators became the backbone of that militia.

Yes, I too use Continental Marines.

John;
I'm sure I'll be flogged for saying this, but Perry British in cut down coats and round hats wouldn't be too terrible.

I'll also second Old Glory's Continental Marines, some of them, as not being too far out.

The OG figures have the added benefit of being cost effective via the OG Army Card, as you know…

The Perry hat is more of a brimmed hat turned up on the left side than it is a round hat. I'd use the Old Glory marines. They are very nice figures -- I've used them for some of the early war Virginia troops and the Philly Associators in some of my previous AWI armies.

The vote seems to be in favor of Old Glory Continental Marines.
I never bought that pack, so was not familiar with it.

John,
I have yet to build any Philadelphia Associator Battalions, but I have used the Old Glory, Contenental Marines for three of my Virginia Infantry units. They would work fine as Associators.
TomS.

p.s. However, you do realize that the minute you finish painting up your last O.G., Marine figure as an Associator---Perry, Eureka and at least two other miniature companies will release Philly Associator figures!

I have not painted any Continental Marines as Volunteers of Ireland, though. grin
But I do see what you mean.
I have to go with what's available now, and CW is 2 weeks away. Less…
Fewer?

BTW, are we allowed to say "Continental Marines" Did GW trademark that too? grin

I don't know but you cannot use the word Jesus on any bit of clothing or apparel or you will get sued by Jesus Jeans (according to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal).

Didn't Matthew trademark that name?
