The only problem with playing Tanga is that, to be realistic, you're not going to have any idea what any of your troops are doing. Apart from the roads, the whole area is dense bush, if not jungle, with probably no more than 5 yards visibility in any direction. So, essentially, as the Brits, no control over your men, no idea what they're doing, no idea where the enemy are, even when they're firing on you, no idea of direction at platoon level, the added problem is that the majority of your men are carrying rifles they've only just been given. Apart from having vague directives, the game is really going to be umpire controlled, with the Brits not being allowed to see the table if it is going to work properly! |

Sadly never made it to Tanga. (due to getting malaria in Bukoba) and recouping in Mwanza and DeS used all our funds. Nearest I got to haveing lunch at the Kaiserhof was passing the turnoff on the way to Taveta. I once played an AWI game in which the whole table was forested but divided into grids. Moving E from square 1 would bring you out facing N in square 7 for example. The referee had the map and everyone else was totally lost at the start. Maybe a possible way to repliacte the jungle section. |
