A Good-Looking Army in a Reasonable Amount of Time

Painting a wargaming army is a completely different beast from painting a single miniature for display.

Read and partecipate if you want grin

In the same post a wargame survey. Using Mike' s words " An interesting questionnaire – certainly made me think,
and worth a few minutes of your time".

A few of the questions seemed very loaded. 'Do you sometimes feel dislike or hate towards an opponent or their models?' (I'm paraphrasing here and my memory may be faulty as to the exact wording).
I want to answer 'depends on how big a dick he's being' but that option isn't there, just a yes/no/sometimes. So I answered.'No' as I don't want to come across as a loon. I've signed up to see his finished paper. Should be interesting to see his conclusions.

Interesting that it did not ask where in the world the participant was

"Depends on big a dick he's being" sounds like the very definition of the term sometimes.

Don't think that link is what it was supposed to be … it leads to a painting service!

I was hoping to learn what the Marne Project was (is).

Tim, the event will extend what we did in a previous refight of the Marne. The details can be found here:

link

That event had all of the BEF, two corps of German cavalry, the French Fifth Army and the German Second Army fielded on three ping-pong tables joined end-to-end.

To give you some idea of 20,000 figures for next year, these will include Maunoury's Sixth Army, von Kluck's First Army, the remnants of Sordet's Cavalry Corps, Conneau's Cavalry Corps (French), Foch's Ninth Army, and possibly part of von Hausen's Third Army in addition to what we already have. There will be 11 tables in total, covering the Marne battlefield from the St Gond marshes in the east through to north of St Soupplets in the northwest. The fighting will cover the period from 5th-8th September 1914. The town of Dormans is keen to promote the event. We hope that this will include provision of the castle.

So in answer to your question, we are just over a third of the way there with respect to the number of figures already painted.

This is an awesome event, a shame I can't be there. But at least I had the pleasure of being involved in the smaller 2007 event.

We are considering running a smaller game in parallel here in Christchurch, New Zealand to coincide with the 'biggie' in Dormans. We;ll keep you all posted in case we manage to 'pull something out of the bag'.

Kind regards
Robin

Cincinnatus- there's no context. By answering 'sometimes' it doesn't explain why I'm feeling that way, just that I am. It could mean 'sometimes I have an irrational hatred of whoever is sitting opposite me' rather than a perfectly rational dislike of someone being a fool.

I think it will be a truly fantastic event and spectacle. We have a lot of folks working on things already, from painting to gaming area, terrain, accomodations etc.
And the rules we are using (Great War Spearhead II) have already had a run at the game in NZ and also refights of Cambria and give excellent returns on how WWI battles actually were fought out (from the position of a Corps Commander that is – it is definately not skirmish or for those who don't like to do a little bit of planning).

Ah, the planning.. the planning .. the planning .. that's what makes the game for me.. personal taste I know…
