I'm looking at using Baccus minis for ACW. I like his baseing system but have the Polemos rules and don't really care for them. What other rules would you suggest?

Ken Portner24 Feb 2013 4:26 p.m. PST

Only rules where one stand equals a regiment I've heard of is Volley & Bayonet. They're not ACW specific but cover the period.

I should also mention I don't care for Fire & Fury.

PKay Inc24 Feb 2013 4:36 p.m. PST

Fire and Fury.

There is a Warmaster variant for the ACW at link

Or there is Horse, Foot and Guns by Phil Barker at link

Isn't HFG a brigade for the element?

Ivan DBA24 Feb 2013 5:08 p.m. PST

DBACW is one stand=one regiment.

Rich Bliss24 Feb 2013 5:11 p.m. PST

Volley and Bayonet is nominally 1 stand= 1 brigade. However there is a reduced scale version that works at 1 stand= regiment.

I recommend that you take a look at "A Union So tested". link

You know, lots of boardgames use a regiment as the unit, and it would be simple to substitute a stand of minis for the counter and use pretty much identical rules. Maybe with distance in inches rather than a hex grid.

DBACW or Volley and Bayonet will both work.

Ken Portner24 Feb 2013 6:59 p.m. PST

Fire & Fury is not one stand = one regiment anyway.

As Bryan mentioned above, "A Union So Tested" is 1 stand = 1 regiment. We use it with 10mm figures, but it would be great with 6mm

We have played black Powder at Divisional level a stand becomes a Regt several stands become one Brigade ( so the Brigade is the operational unit instead of the battalion /regt ) A division is now the Brigade .
Only tried it once , it kind of works .. You just need to rewire .

On To Richmond with the Brigade being the tactical unit. Battle are based on Historical battles using Brigade organizations. In some situations 2 small regiments may have to be combined as one.

DBACW works well in 6mm, 1 base = 1 Regiment or whatever you want it to be and its 'fast play' and not complex.
