My Vikings and their enemies/victims carry horns to blow (and sometimes drink from). I've been plugging away for years, but I've never found a really good way to paint horns. Does anybody have any suggestions or tips? Grelber |

Pretty much as Rudi said. Lots of different ways depending how many layers or how much blending you want to do. I like to start from a GW Scorched brown and go through Bestial Brown a Vermin Brown, yellow ochre of some sort, bleached bone and then white. I have a Minotaur here which I did some years ago with this for his horns and hooves Of course you can short cut and adapt that how you will. remember though to actualy have a look at some cattle horns, especially the older breeds as sometimes the shading goes the opposite way to what you might expect. base colour can be black, dark or mid brown, then strips painted on the horn from the base to the tip with a mid cream, then a lighter cream to white for the tip |

I usually go with a mid to dark brown basecoat, drybrushed with a lighter brown then washed with a brown ink. Depending on scale I often drill out the mouth of the horn, which gets painted black or black-brown. |
