"The Italo Turkish War took place between the Ottoman Empire and Italy from September 28th, 1911 to October 18th , 1912. His outburst was motivated by the imperialist aspirations of Italy over the territories of Tripolitania and Cyrenaica, Libya and the Dodecanese archipelago, at that time under the dominion of Turkey. Italy decided to take these territories by force…
While this confrontation introduced systematic use of new and numerous technical developments the most spectacular was the airplane…

The Italian Command conducted a special campaign and mobilization, forming an expeditionary force composed of about 34,000 men divided as follows:
1. The Army: comprising 2 Divisions organized as follows:

• 2 Brigades (composed of two regiments and sections of machine guns).
• 2 cavalry squadrons.
• 1 artillery regiment (with 4 batteries of 75').
• 1 company of sappers.
• Transportation and uniforms.

2. – Support Troops:

• 2 regiments of Bersaglieri with 1 machine-gun sections.
• 1 Mountain Artillery Regiment (4 batteries).
• 1 group of 2 companies of site Artilery.
• 1 engineer battalion (composed of two companies of sappers).
• 1 telegraph company.
• Administration.

By 1912 the Italian Army deployed 55,000 men in the area again, and increases the number of its strength to 84 artillery guns, 42 mountain and 28 mortars for the siege of Arab strongholds…

The Regia Marina played a key role in the conflict against Turkey. Conducted successful missions as the landing of Marines in Tripoli, the raid on the basis of the Dardanelles, the harassment of the Turkish fleet and especially the performance of the torpedo fleet under Commander Enrico Millo.

At the end of the conflict the Italian Navy had managed to sink enemy units: Antalya, Hamidiye, Alpagot, Avnillah and Ankara…

The units of the battalion were 2 Bleriot XI, 3 Nieuport monoplanes, two Farman biplanes and 2 monoplanes Taube.
The plane of captain Moizo was the first airplane damaged by enemy flak.

One intersting aspect of that landgrab was that Italy DID seek (and got) consent from Britain, France and Russia beforehand, but kept the actual plans secret from its alligned allies Germany and Austria, who did not want to see the Osmanic Empire destabilized. Both had warned Italy against this war.
