When making masters for CRMC should you design in a little draft angle, say 4 to 6 degrees or does the rubber flex enough generally to not cause any problems in getting the casting sprue out without damaging the mold? I'm designing up a part that is only .135 inch thick by about 1 inch long and .25 inch wide and generally flat (a mechanical object not organic shape). I've got some Contenti 700 series and Romanoff RRD-1 black rubber molds that I'm going to try. With it only sunk into the rubber by the .135 thickness I wouldn't think I would really need any draft angle. What say you guys that have done this longer than me? Also how much undercut can you usually stand without shortening the life of the mold drastically. I'm looking at a square shaped .009 inch deep undercut located about halfway up the thickness of the part, like a bolt head. Think the mold will allow enough flex to get that out without tearing? Or should I carry the detail back up to the mold parting plane? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Jeff |

got any pics as the description is hard to follow, visual is always better. but as a rule the black rubber moulds can take quite a bit of undercuts without tearing |

Shaun: Thanks for the response. I do have some illustrations. Mind if I contact you by PM with the stuff? Jeff |

You'll have no problems with the part as described with no modification. Have fun! |
