I read it right out of the can, with everything turned ON.
Back when Dear Editor™ gave us the option to format the Front Page however we wanted to, I went back and arranged things the way they always were. I hate change. grin

There are only two specific Boards that I search regularly, American Revolution and Flames of War.
I will browse others occasionally, but by no means regularly.

haywire20 Feb 2013 8:04 a.m. PST

I read the front page mostly. Sometimes I will do an author search on me to look on older posts in which I responded.

I pick up new topics off of the home page, and fairly frequently do a search on my own name to check replies on threads I've posted to. I very rarely browse specific boards.

Same as the bleedin' banana

ataulfo20 Feb 2013 8:12 a.m. PST

Same as John.

A moderate selection of boards on the front page. Frequent visits to specific boards that are staple genres, and others when I'm working on projects in that genre. Sporadic visits to other boards of interest that aren't currently an active project.

Mick in Switzerland20 Feb 2013 8:14 a.m. PST

I have bookmarks for the places that are most interesting to me.
Ancients Discussion
Fantasy Discussion
Medieval Discussion
WW2 Painting Guides
I also scan the new posts on the front page.

Sajiro20 Feb 2013 8:15 a.m. PST

I read the front page. I'll scan the boards a few times per day while at work. Most of the time I'm not even signed into my account.

Personal logo McKinstry Supporting Member of TMP Fezian20 Feb 2013 8:20 a.m. PST

I'm pretty much a front page, everything enabled, browser and only occasionally follow a particularly interesting thread or train wreck once it falls off the front page.

Allen5720 Feb 2013 8:24 a.m. PST

Im like McKinstry

I think I turned off 2 or 3 boards, otherwise I read from the frontpage. I did re-arrange the page a little, but not drasticly

Garand20 Feb 2013 8:28 a.m. PST

Front page too. I also have a few boards turned off that'll never interest me (like Napoleonics!)

Damon.

Tommy2020 Feb 2013 8:31 a.m. PST

Same a Dom. I've turned off a few boards, but not many.

Ivor Dangleberry20 Feb 2013 8:44 a.m. PST

From a safe distance

Martin Rapier20 Feb 2013 8:47 a.m. PST

All boards on, read the front page.

As far as possible I've turned off or sorted to the bottom all the un-necessary clutter (showcase, marketplace etc).

I occasionally read boards directly, but as I am so lazy, often only if there is a link from a current thread on the front page. There are so many that I can't rememeber where stuff might be and searching is usually a waste of time.

It would be nice to to able to list threads on the front page by last updated rather than first posted, then I need never look at a board directly again.

Klebert L Hall20 Feb 2013 9:02 a.m. PST

Check once a day, everything on, read the front page and occasionally search.
-Kle.

axabrax20 Feb 2013 9:10 a.m. PST

What choice is there? You start at the top and you scroll to the bottom. If you are interested in what people are selling, you dart left and right. If you want to find something specific, you do a search and hope the search engine can find something relevant as there are hardly any filters and it ain't too bright. If you want to search Hobby News, well, you're out of luck. Fortunately the content for the site is gold and worth the time travel experience back to web design circa 1998 to find it >;D

altfritz20 Feb 2013 9:12 a.m. PST

I have everything "on" but if it isn't on the Front Page is usually ceases to exist for me. (I typically can't remember what board the thread was on and can't find my way back…)

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP20 Feb 2013 9:17 a.m. PST

Like John said

The Beast Rampant20 Feb 2013 9:25 a.m. PST

Front page, as-is, but with "modern" turned off (I set it that way to begin with, haven't bothered to change it).

I peruse the front page, and visit my six or so main boards about once a week, with specific searches. I think the last one was "converged grenadier".

I search me every now & then, to see where the topics go.

elsyrsyn20 Feb 2013 9:28 a.m. PST

As the defunct banana.

Doug

wrgmr120 Feb 2013 9:42 a.m. PST

As McKinstry said.

Kaoschallenged20 Feb 2013 10:00 a.m. PST

Just go right to the ones I am interested in.I tend to ignore the Frontpage. Robert

Yesthatphil20 Feb 2013 10:04 a.m. PST

I don't have fantasy, sci-fi and that sort of thing ticked (not that that filters all of it out) and then read what's likely to be interesting of the rest on the front page.

About 10% of the Product News … As much as 20% of the message board posts

Phil

Meiczyslaw20 Feb 2013 10:11 a.m. PST

Default version of the front page, along with the ego search to keep up with topics I'm interested in.

Which probably explains the one-word comments made by some people. wink

Just Jack20 Feb 2013 10:46 a.m. PST

I check the "historical" and "general" board about a thousand times a day.

21eRegt20 Feb 2013 10:55 a.m. PST

Front page, but I have lots of boards turned off. Check it two or three times a day. More if I'm involved in a discussion rather than just lurking.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP20 Feb 2013 11:25 a.m. PST

I have turned off a few sections I really don't have any interest in.

ordinarybass20 Feb 2013 11:58 a.m. PST

I've got little interest in historical, so…

I head to the Sci-Fi Section
Then The Fantasy Section
About half the time I'll also go to "In General"

Fairly often I'll check the entirety of what's for sale by scrolling down the front page.

Ron W DuBray20 Feb 2013 12:30 p.m. PST

"I pick up new topics off of the home page, and fairly frequently do a search on my own name to check replies on threads I've posted to. I very rarely browse specific boards."

yup that covers it.

7th Va Cavalry20 Feb 2013 12:38 p.m. PST

Same as most, first page and scan for interest…..

Grand Duke Natokina20 Feb 2013 2:47 p.m. PST

By the tracks and the droppings, John.

Ed Mohrmann20 Feb 2013 3:12 p.m. PST

Front page, scan for 'old' threads in which I've had
or have an interest. Not much turned-off.

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP20 Feb 2013 4:21 p.m. PST

Straight to boards, with an almost certain order. Afterwards may search for something new

Old Paul20 Feb 2013 4:43 p.m. PST

Back to front… like to start with the comics.

badwargamer20 Feb 2013 5:38 p.m. PST

Jump in a taxi, flash my badge and say "follow that bulletin board"!

Raynman Supporting Member of TMP20 Feb 2013 7:46 p.m. PST

It's pretty snowy here in Wisconsin, right now. I just follow the tracks.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER20 Feb 2013 11:11 p.m. PST

I follow with a pooper scooper.

kokigami20 Feb 2013 11:12 p.m. PST

I am waiting for the movie version

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER20 Feb 2013 11:13 p.m. PST

Oh wait that's my dog!

ghostdog21 Feb 2013 5:31 a.m. PST

I read the frontpage, going direct to the boards. I dont care about market and i just read brefly the news.
I read all the thread topics as i have checked all the boards, but i only read those i am interested in; even if i dont like the period i am interested in issues like comand and control systems.

I didnt used to read topics once they were out of the front page; its difficult for me to track them once they dissapear from the front page, as i am interested in so many boards.
In fact, it was a shock to discover that people posted even if the topic was out of the front page. I though that once they were out of the frontpage, they were over

dar91621 Feb 2013 11:36 a.m. PST

Frontpage mostly. Ocassionally scour through a board if I am looking for ideas (especially terrain, painting and basing) or rules. If I need to do a search, I use google site:theminiaturespage.com (search object)" which finds a lot more relevant hits than using the TMP search function (IMO).

Footslogger22 Feb 2013 8:35 a.m. PST

Enter directly on Napoleonics discussion, then flick through several other boards relevant to whatever I'm doing. Occasionally delve into General Boards – British Wargaming, TMP Talk and Utter Drivel.

Sometimes check Dawghouse to see who's there, and why.

If a Napoleonics thread starts going nasty, I find a nice reverse slope position and form a one-man square until it's over.

Admiral Yi Sun Sin is my Homie22 Feb 2013 3:09 p.m. PST

I click through like it's a bad habit:

Front Page
Click on a new News item or topic I'm interested in.
<Back>
click on another…repeat
Then I'll move onto specific boards if I hadn't already
15mm Sci-Fi
28mm Sci-Fi
40k
Flames of War
American Revolution
SYW
Cold Wars
Ancients Discussion

Edit: I REALLY REALLY miss the date field in the "Board" pages which were replaced with the "Display on Homepage?" field that I don't use. frown

Grand Duke Natokina03 Mar 2013 6:37 p.m. PST

Generally ck the Dawghouse to make sure I'm not in it first.
Then to the Lounge, then to TMP poll suggestions or talk boards. By then I have run out of time on the library's Computer.
