Greetings all, I have been playing Max for some time now with my early Italian wars figures and I have just started collecting Samurai and Koreans for the Imjin war. I am looking for some ideas on rating the troops. I am thinking the Yari Ashigaru will be spearmen. They fought in shallow formations and even though some had spears almost as long as pikes they did not fight in the push of pike style. Samurai foot I am having trouble with. They were armed in the period primarily with the Yari (spear) but also used the naginata (halberd) and of course their katana. I am thinking Halberd for them to represent their better fighting value. Samurai horse by this stage was all Yari armed and so will be fine as Cavalry. Arquebus troops are fine as missile troops but I am thinking the rare units of arquebus armed samurai should be forlorn hope. For the Koreans i need a new troops type as their cavalry was all basicaly sipahi style. They wore armour and used bows as well as lances so I am thining to add a ranged of 8 on to them (25mm scale) The rest are pretty easy the heavy infantry will be halberdiers the missile troops are all light foot and the militia pikes will be pikes with militia negatives. Has anyone doen this period and written rules up for Max? |

Certainly no expert on the Imjin War, but if the Korean cavalry was sipahi style, maybe they should be classed as sipahi are in the Ottoman list? |

Sipahi in the Ottomoan list is just cavalry but Korean cav had a shooting capability that was integral to their role. They are not light cavalry because they were armoured and did use spears and the like for combat
