Well, since the QRF sales have given the posties a lot of work (not to mention Chas and Geoff) here's yet another review, this time of the Chally 2. This model was briefly mentioned on TMP and opinions were split as to whether the turret was correct or not. Well, I fall on the "turret is wrong" side of the house. But it is a nice model and with some work looks closer to what I think a Challenger 2 should look like:

Nifty report! I think some models suffer from visual tricks. It's tough to make a mini tank "look right" without exaggerating the height. I glued a washer to the turrets of my QRF Chieftains just to make them look taller. I have no idea if they were 100% accurate or not, but to my eye they look better that way. Your mileage may vary of course. |

Yes the washers a good idea – I did that with their Chieftain. However their Chieftain STILLBREW is spot on! |

I think we raised the turret when producing the Stillbrew upgrade |

I once had a surreal experience, in 2004, of walking around a Chally 2, which for some reason was laagered up in the grounds of the Royal School of Signals, Blandford, whilst I was serving there on liaison from the Navy. I got talking to the crew, and, finding out they would be there the next day, and hopefully having convinced them that I wasn't certifiable, the next day brought in my QRF model of the same – this was the one without all the extra armour, and we walked around the actual beast with the model. We just could not fault it! I so wish I could have taken some photos, but obviously the home of the Royal Signals is not a good place to go happy snapping

Yes, I know. That's why I put a cheeky comment on the fact that you must have walked around a Challenger 2 Driver Training Tank though I named no names. <G> Whether the turret needs to be heightened is open to debate, I thought it looked better but I've no idea if it's needed. But as far as the angles on the front of the turret are concerned, I'm pretty certain there's something missing. There's a very good set of walkaround photos here: link |

obviously the home of the Royal Signals is not a good place to go happy snapping Oh, I don't know, we've done a fair bit of snapping at Blandford, Warminster and Larkhill
Oh, and inside the hangers at Middle Wallop ;-) |
