Big fan of Black Powder and Hail Caesar and have supported Warlord Games since day 1. Having browsed their forum for a long time decided a couple of weeks ago to finally sign up for it so I could contribute. Filled out all my info, did the annoying captchas etc, received my validation email, all the standard stuff. Go to log in for the first time and I am met with this: You have been permanently banned from this board. Please contact the Board Administrator for more information. Reason given for ban: spamer
Oh well, must be a mistake, so I emailed the administrator as requested and hear nothing. Done this 3 times now and my emails are being ignored. I cant even browse the forum now as it seems to recognise my IP address and stop me even looking. Pretty ed off tbh, as Ive been a loyal customer in the past, seems a bit shoddy customer service to me. :( |

I administer another forum and regularly block the IP address of spammers. It is likely that somebody using your ISP spammed the forum so the administrators blocked that IP or block of IPs. |

This happened on another forum I was on and the over zealous admin bot basically banned everyone :) basically it was something similar to what scrivs said |

you did do a full scan of your PC first, didn't you. just in case they have correctly picked up something which you are unaware of. |

In my experience as a group host (Yahoo) I have found that there are 2 ways someone gets marked as a spammer – I can do it or Yahoo can do it. If I do, I can block or unblock them. If Yahoo does, it's completely outside my control – although I can still clear individual messages sent by the tagged individual. I have found that Yahoo is pretty unforgiving of past "sins". You might try joining again from another computer. If so then see if you can log on on your usual computer (the one whose IP you think has been tagged). This will at least tell you if it's an account problem (say, the email address you submitted) or a hardware problem (your computer has been identified as a force of evil). These things are frustrating. Good luck and let us know how it gets resolved. |

The irritating thing is if you are on a dynamic IP address (my home cable modem does this), if a board or whatever does ban by IP you can get nailed months down the line for no connection. When moderating a phbb board it makes for a difficult decision is the abusive user is coming in from an address block within a dynamic range
..so we decided not to ban by IP as it failed too often. A user could just reboot the modem and stand a decent chance of picking up a new Ip and pass on the IP to another user under the same ISP
.all fun and games. |

I tend to block entire IP ranges. For example on the forum I moderate just about every Indonesian ISP is blocked because we are not interested in seeing adverts for new kitchens. |

I tend to block entire IP ranges Kind of harsh. What about users on college campuses, I know that all of our outbound goes through only a couple IP addresses |

It is likely that somebody using your ISP spammed the forum so the administrators blocked that IP or block of IPs. I guess thats possible seeing as Im using the biggest ISP in the UK. I cant imagine even an over zealous admin would do that surely! Will try dropping Paul an email directly. @Keraunos – yeah NOD32 and Spambot say Im clean. |

Ban them all, you know they've done something to deserve it even though you may not be sure exactly what their offense was. |
