I trust TMPers more than your average anonymous internet group, at least as far as reviewing minis and related gaming goes :)

Anybody given this a spin? They've got it at the FGS about an hour away but I don't want to hop in without significant evidence that it's worth it.

I'd be interested in hearing everything from thoughts on the minis and especially gameplay. Thanks in advance,

Daron

GR, Thanks. That's an interesting post on his site.
Happy to read others' thoughts.

From other posts I've read, the models are having a mixed receiption. Fully painted versions look fantastic (most mfr's stuff usually does) but I don't want something that's too fiddly to build or that breaks easily.

Gameplay is also very important since being an 'off-brand', around this gaming scene, I'll have to be the one always bringing this game if it ever gets played.

I've gotten to play a couple times now. I really like the way the game plays out.

Do you like Bloodbowl? DB is really similar, except IMO, DB is tactically deeper. You are only allowed 5 'actions' per turn (with 6 guys on the field) so you must decide who will play each turn. Each player is allowed to make two of those actions, plus have 'special' actions in the form of random cards.

You may have also read that a player that does something extremely well may be awarded free actions, so that adds another tactical layer, as well as luck, and the feeling that a particular player has just done something special.

Also, better than BB is the time spent. Whereas two highly experienced BB players can finish a game in two hours (and most of the time, that is really moving!) you can finish a DB game in an hour or so.

I was really excited by the figures, but honestly, I was pretty disappointed in them. They took forever to clean up, and the poses themselves are just kinda boring. They kind of reminded me of the old plastic space marines where you get 15 guys in the same pose! While its not quite that bad, I'm hoping the second round of figures will add some new poses to spice 'em up a little bit.

Sorry – it's 2am right now, and my gRaM3r is probably terrible and some of my points may not be clear, but overall, I think DB is a well designed game and I'm looking forward to getting to play again.

I agree with Jay. Great game. The game is a little better than BB IMHO. I am less excited about the figures. I like the fantasy theme of BB better than the Sci-Fi theme. Some of the later teams seem to be a little more creative than the early teams.

The tactics for this game are deep. I get that little slight headache I get playing chess as I play Dreadball. It is very well designed with lots of tough decisions required for skillful play.

A few BB fanatics have been giving it a spin, wil try and find again the thread they are reporting it in (it is on one of the many blood bowl sites). Their biggest concern is long term league play and the fact it doesn't seem very balanced or easy to sustain with the level of casualties some of the teams inflict.
