I was a Cold Wars about 10 – 12 years ago and I saw some outstanding large scale (I'd guess 1:600 maybe) ships that were of the Anglo-Dutch Wars to perhaps the War of Spanish Succession. I didn't buy them and have been kicking myself ever since! I have looked and looked and have found nothing that comes to this scale!

Does anyone have any idea who the manufacturer of these ships might be, where or how you can get them. Or, if I just "hit-my-head" real hard that day and just imagined them!!!!

Thanks

Old Glory Shipyard/Merrimack Miniatures?

100-1 says they were scratchbuilt. Never heard of large scale Anglo Dutch. OG is armada and 1/300. Maybe converted Heller or Pyro kits.

I concur, having never seen any mentioned in that scale either.

There were some wooden ones from a year or three ago, which I think was at Cold Wars, and I inquired about them. Turned out they were home-made, wooden models, in 1/100th scale.

Supposedly, they were considering putting them into production last year, but I inquired about that, and never received a response.

Sailpower does some Napoleonic and AWI vessels in 1/100th scale as well.

Old Glory does 1/100th (15mm), and 1/300th for the Napoleonic and War of 1812, amongst others.

The only Anglo-Dutch I'm aware of are from Langton, and are 1/1200th scale (they might do a vessel or two in 1/300th also).

…And Navwar and Tumbling Dice. grin

I am interested in starting production of 1/600 scale Dutch and English warships for the Anglo-Dutch naval wars. The models would need to be bigger than Langton ones if you were going to attempt to paint the stern art on them, perhaps a set of decals could be made for these models to make painting them easier.
Let me have some feedback if this period and scale interests you as well.

I'm truly interested in a large range of Anglo Dutch ships.

Many times I hoped Old Glory Shipyard begin this range in 1/300 (resin) like Armada and Napoleonic, but nothing for now.

1/600 is still good for me, I'll be very happy if You cast these ships.
Do You think to cast in metal?

wargamer609 Oct 2013 8:46 a.m. PST

To keep costs down the hulls would need to be made in resin with metal masts, sails and sterns. I am not fixed on 1/600 yet but I would like the size to be big enough so you can identify the individual ships from their distinctive stern decorations. I have got pictures of the majority of Dutch warships that fought in the 4 days battle. It would be great to make a diorama of this sea action similar to the one they have of Trafalgar at Portsmouth dockyard museum but this would be a bigger undertaking than I can manage on my own.

I think Resin hulls and metal sterns are very good,
for sails please also consider the photoetched option.
The 4 days battle was very impressive, more than 100 ships fought those days, a total diorama of the battle I think could be very difficult to do, maybe some episode like a 1 squadron vs 1 squadron fight could be more affordable.

However I hope You can really start the production of 1/600 Anglo Dutch ships.

First ship I would like to see?
Without doubt the Dutch ship Zeven Provincien.
