I need maps made for me. I've tried to use MappingBoard and I just get frustrated.

Unless there is a map mapping program that dummies can use then I need someone to make some maps for me.

I'm looking for hex maps 8 x 11 sheets.

I need desert, jungle, woods, city

So, can anyone lead me to a software program that is EASY to use? Or can someone lead me to someone on the web that can make maps for me so I can print them out?

Thanks!!

What exactly are you looking for?

if you just want a jpg file that can be printed out on A4 or maybe A3 size on a printer then any drawing package can do it. I use seashore which is free for Mac OS.

photoshop is pricey but it has more features.

There are programmes like Hexdraw (I guess mapmaker is similar) but they seem to be too fiddly for me.

I just draw my terrain features in layers and use the copy past function. It took me a while to get it right but now I can draw a square of dense terrain in about half a day. I broke the maps into 10x10 hex squares to keep the size down (only 2GB RAM!). My next computer will have 8GB RAM so may be able to handle much larger maps in one piece.

The new VASSAL tiles the maps anyway, making them load faster and with less memory.

PM me if you are still stuck. Maybe I can help you out if you can't find another solution.

What I'd like is to be able to make maps like these and print them out and glue them to foamboard to make a larger map

Those Axis and Allies maps are PERFECT, but I want desert maps, jungle maps and a little more variety

Thanks, i'll check out Hexdraw

I see. They don't look that hard frankly.

have a look at my blog for lots of my home drawn maps. bear in mind the real files are much larger than the pictures here which are captured off VASSAL. I can send you some of the originals by email if you PM me your address.

Take a look at BattleTech maps, there are scanned versions available and the official Battletech forums also have lots of user-generated maps for free download, with all kinds of terrain.

BT has an official hex map making program called HeavyMetal Maps, and even though the tile graphics weren't to my taste the program was reasonably easy to use.

I use the Ogre Map Editor, it's free and easy to use.

I found a very simple system: Liors Map Creator. It never made it to a version 1.0 but the version is useable.

It is free and Online here: link
