As part of my 15mm Batman project I came up with an idea for making the 15mm building interiors much more accessible for miniatures – you just glue the exterior walls to the ceiling, instead of the floor. See below:

It not only makes for much more accessible interiors, but also allows one to put interior walls in 15mm buildings and still be able to easily move miniatures around.

You can find more pictures and the description on my blog: link

Great simple idea…..also like the cat!

I went full monty for 15mm, so no wall. I just stack blocks up and instead draw floorplans. In addition to small size, 15mm is also problematic with scale vs base size. With 20mm base a single figure occupies the full 2 x 2 meters. I did consider a similar solution to yours, but it makes each module twice as tall when stored unasembled.

I like the idea a lot. I'll play around with something similar when I start work on some 15mm Sci/Fi buildings I have in the back of my head. How thick is that foam core you are using?

Why is the house full of rocks and weeds?

Good stuff in your blog!

I've been pondering about making some Urban Planters myself…

That is a great idea. One suggestion that I'd make it paint the top of each wall section as an indication of where windows (and doors in the case of balconies) are located in the walls on the floor above. That way you can position figures in cover looking out the windows even when the top and outer walls are off the building.

Thanks for all the comments!

@Heisler: the foam core is 5mm thick.

@Extra Crispy: That, Sir, is a fine level of trolling :D

@Warren Abox: Great idea, will use it for sure!

PS. I prefer your idea so much, much more than mine:
