I have a short review of MJ Figures' 15mm Panhard AML 90 along with side-by-side pics with the Peter Pig version.

This model appears to have been built by using a Panhard sales brochure as reference material as the combination of upgraded turret and engine doesn't really match any in-service version

A common problem is that many plans are drawn up off sales materials or prototype designs, and vary from what makes it into final production. Sometimes it is small details, but sometimes the changes can be quite significant.

You have to be careful even with photos, as many are taken of sales prototypes, rather than full production vehicles.

Yes, it's interesting to see how easy it is to find plans of modern vehicles and how hard it is to find accurate plans of modern vehicles… Couple that with the facts that some vehicles come in a myriad of variants tailored to each customer and it can quickly become a nightmare to sort out what's what. Nowadays, I'm happy if the general shape is correct.

Comparing the two models was interesting because it shows that:
1. A minor difference in size for one main component (the turret) gives the impression that the model is much smaller overall.
2. When a particular model has been on the market for a long time, such as the PP AML, it sets the standard of what looks "too small" or "too large".

When a particular model has been on the market for a long time, such as the PP AML, it sets the standard of what looks "too small" or "too large"

That's actually quite a significant factor. We occasionally see posted here that X or Y are small, whereas it could well be simply that Z is over size and X or Y are correct!

There is also a general perception that all tanks are 'big and chunky' therefore the biggest one must be right.
