At least I hope so, me and Thomas are going to give Muskets & Tomahawk's a try this weekend. The French & Indian War is probably my favorite historical skirmish setting. You get all the pretty uniforms and cool units of the period but the war itself lends itself wonderfully well to skirmishes between raiding and scouting parties. You don't have to paint up 120 guys marching with a bored facial expression and rifle across the shoulder, it's enough to have a dozen of miniatures to get started.

I wrote a bit about my initial impression of having read the rules, I reserve my review and final thoughts until after I have played it this Sunday. But it looks really good on paper for the most part, there are only tiny things that bother me (basically I think it would have been better off using a D10 instead of D6 considering the number of really good modifiers).

You can read about the rest of my initial impressions over at my blog:

I have been on the fence between these and This Very Ground for some time. I have over 100 Conquest and Perry Indians and look forward to gaming the period. I will have to give it some serious thought this weekend.

TVG is a lot more detailed in terms of unit movement, formations, various firing modes and ammo depletion. It's really not a bad set of rules, but it could be a tad tedius in places.

M&T is a bit more abstract in places, and just has one single fire mode for all units and then you use a reload action (often the next turn) before you can fire again.

But what's appealing to me with M&T is the scenario/character aspects and there are some nice touches to unit morale, spotting and long range Hit/Kill modifiers that I'm eager to try out.

This Very Ground though simulates firing very well and in a novel way

We just finised our first game of American War of Independance using M&T last night, but our 4th game of rules. We had cavalry and they died to a man.

Awesome paint jobs. I like the use of Perry jaegers as French. Clever.

How integrated are the scenario rules to the M&T rules overall? Could the scenario generation rules be used with other rule sets like TVG?

I just posted a review of the rules based upon my gaming experience this weekend. The review has a short list of comparisons with This Very Ground which may be interesting for those who want to quickly know the difference between both games.

It's posted here in the 18th century rules review section, but you can also find it following this link:
