Sub hunting? We don't need no stinking sub hunting!

Even if you think this is a good addition, they only got around to it on the fifth ship.

LCS is a waste of money and resources. To think these are replacing full mission capable frigates.

Another colossal waste of taxpayer dollars. The Independence sure looks cool though…

I'm not entirely sure I can describe a frigate as 'fully mission capable'. At least the Independence class can handle a full-sized helo AND a couple Fire Scouts.

I'm still confused as to how the US managed to not build any mission modules for the LCS.

They are very nice looking, if overpriced yachts.

Hopefully, someone will get the USN back on track, after the budgets are slashed.

An Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate has following capabilities:

- Anti-ship (Harpoon via single arm missile launcher or VLS on updated RAN Adelaide boats))
- Medium Anti-air (Standard or Evolved Sea Sparrow SAM)
- Anti-submarine capability (helicopter + torpedo tubes)
- Ground support (76.2 mm gun)
- 2 helicopters (mainly SH-60B/R Seahawk).

That sounds like a pretty comprehensive list of capabilities.

The LCS on the other hand has far more limited capabilities:

- only a 57mm gun.
- limited planned anti-ship capability (mainly aimed at killing swarms of speedboats)
- more limited ASW capability (basically limited to helicopter)
- Only point defence anti-aircraft defence

I'd rather the frigate especially for the Asia Pacific environment.
