Am looking to mass produce a laod of 20mm Russians usingthe spray can / other colours / Dip style.

What shade green army painter spray would people recommend? Or a green spray from any other company come to that.

Cheers

Probably GW Dark angel green would be my choice.

Dark green for Russian Infantry uniforms? You may want to check on that.

Just get an airbrush and you can use any color you like.

If you're talking about tanks Vallejo makes a color that used to be called Russian Green (don't remember the name anymore). It's not number 894 in their list.

They also make an airbrush color that is still called Russian Green, and an airbrush primer called 4BO Green.

I use Vallejo 880--Khaki Grey for Russian Infantry. Spray it on with my airbrush, use other browns/tans for the equipment, wash and done.

If you go too dark and then use the dip it will darken further. You may want to go lighter and then dip.

Army Painter Green might do, there's an example with Dark tone on this ebay auction:

I picked up a couple of different green Krylon cans and did some testing. Just pick the one you like the most.

I assume we are talking tanks here.

After all, even if the colors are off a bit, so were the Russian colors – factory to factory

As he said uniform I would guess infantry
In which case it is a grey/green or kharki colour
If you are going to dip you wannt to go for a lighter shade
Warpaint make one but I think they are out of stock in US and Aus but maybe available in Europe

If you are looking for a khaki color, I use Krylon Camouflager khaki. It is a dead flat, designed for outdoor use, and takes paint very well.

I'm just doing some. As I'm sure you know the uniform colours vary as much as the tank colours!

I'd recommend the flames of war German late war armour spray followed up with a wash with the Citadel (games Workshop) 'Agrax Earthshade'.

Sorry, for some reason I had "Napoleonic Russians" on the brain!

Halfrauds do a rather expensive camouflage range of paints now, at £8.00 GBP for 300ml. The Khaki would work for Russian WW2 uniform base colour, and it is claimed to be ultra matt.

At B& Q there is a nice PlastiKote Chocolate Matt Spray at £7.00 GBP for 400ml, which I am considering for my own WW2 Russians. Might be a tad dark if you are going to dip/wash on top, but I tend to wash with oils/inks into creases then dry brush a highlight colour, so Choccy Warrior wont be the final shade. So it might do. If you want winter Camo they do an Ice Cream matt in this range as well!

Krylon is the camo paint that everyone seems to rave about. Its harder to get in UK as some say it might not conform to EU safety regs…… Its £7.00 GBP for 11oz. If they dont have a colour for you, though no one will.

Note that there might be issues in having this stuff sent out mail order as its all pressurised cans etc. I went along to a specialist family-run paint shop near me who used to stock it for the huntin shootin fishin community and hopefully they can order it in for me.

Army Painter, of course is designed for the job. £10.00 GBP for a 400ml can is OK imho. But you have to work out whether the esoteric names such as Necrotic Flesh or Army Green or Angel Green is correct for your Russian camo undercoat. And there are no stores near here from which I could buy it. So Army builder is hard work for Historical gamers, and Krylon might be the way Im eventually going. Didnt Army Painter do specific tank spray colours for WW2 armies once? what happened to those colours?

Oh yeah, I forgot about Tamiya sprays. Excellent, but £7.00 GBP for 100ml can – ouch!!!!!

What do you folks think of Armypainter's "Necrotic Flesh" as the base for Russian WW2 summertime uniforms? It has that nice greenish/brown/grey tone to it.
