solo only
lots of solo, only play others at cons
mostly me and one other
three of us
four of us
five of us
six or more in our club

My group usually manages 4 or 5 on a given week.
I wonder how many players ever get to play multi-player games?

TMPWargamerabbit06 Feb 2013 1:55 p.m. PST

Apart from HMGS-PSW convention games…

Local Napoleonic 25/28mm monthly group games tend from 6 to 12 players each month.

Local monthly ancients Clash of Empires 28mm group we have 4-5 players.

Games on demand when the "Wargamerabbit" broadcasts an event could be 10-12 players.

Local private high school history club meetings range 12-19 players.

I tend to travel about for my gaming fix since the gaming table is piled high with "stuff". With the COE and Napoleonic groups games I have two different group to attend each month plus my side games.

Me myself and I… sometimes my other half.

Pictors Studio06 Feb 2013 2:00 p.m. PST

Usually me and someone else. I never really play solo. I might try a scenario for balance before a convention by myself if I can't find anyone else looking for holes, but I usually can find someone to practice it with.

Sundance06 Feb 2013 2:03 p.m. PST

I play solo games, but in my game group we run from 2 to 6 or 8, with 4 or 5 being typical.

Rudi the german06 Feb 2013 2:17 p.m. PST

2-4 players and an umpire.

Lentulus06 Feb 2013 2:19 p.m. PST

Mostly me and one other. I'm not great at getting motivated for solo and find it hard to get to the club. Which is a shame, 6 or more are the best games IMHO.

Rrobbyrobot06 Feb 2013 2:27 p.m. PST

I play solo. I haven't had an opponent in years.

redbanner414506 Feb 2013 2:34 p.m. PST

My game room holds 6 with difficulty so that is max. Usually 2 to 4.

21eRegt06 Feb 2013 3:12 p.m. PST

4-10 depending on availability and game type. Most often we have six.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2013 3:22 p.m. PST

I prefer at least six and rarely play 1 on 1 as it reminds me of the bad old tournament days.

richarDISNEY06 Feb 2013 3:38 p.m. PST

3-5 players…
beer

skippy000106 Feb 2013 3:42 p.m. PST

2-4 players..and me screaming, mixing rules from 2000+ games in my head, losing charts and npc's…at least they bring food and soda.

vojvoda06 Feb 2013 3:46 p.m. PST

Solo for working on game ideas. Four to six for club group games. Conventions I will try and have enough slots for 4 to 12 players. I scale the scenario for the number of players. Mostly around home it is 3-5 mostly my sons and a friend or two. For some strange reason I always seem to lose at those games.

Generally, I need to plan for 4-6, because our gaming doesn't take place at the FLGS anymore, and I don't have enough tables (yet) to run more than one game.

Yesthatphil06 Feb 2013 4:06 p.m. PST

Our local group usually play one group game rather than individual two-handers (we play plenty of those by individual arrangement, but for our generally weekly get togethers, it's one big game)

Phil

Dynaman878906 Feb 2013 4:28 p.m. PST

Usually four to six players

nsolomon9906 Feb 2013 4:30 p.m. PST

These days its usually just my two children and I – sort of semi-solo. :)

14Bore06 Feb 2013 4:31 p.m. PST

Solo only :( wish it wasn't so

138SquadronRAF06 Feb 2013 4:34 p.m. PST

Ususally 6-10 with and umprie/scenario designer

Gaming is a social activity. Be a sub-commander or CO and experience the 'friction' first hand.

geudens06 Feb 2013 4:34 p.m. PST

For clubnights (if one wants to end a game in a couple of hours): 4 players max. A 5th may act as umpire. In case of more players taking part, the game tends to slow down and there is a major risk it won't lead to a conclusion in the time given.

jerardad06 Feb 2013 4:47 p.m. PST

For D&D, it is 1-4 depending on the campaign and the week. For historicals, it is mostly solo, but sometimes I can get the kids to do a DBA game.

Gear Pilot06 Feb 2013 5:05 p.m. PST

mostly me and one other

richardmkii06 Feb 2013 5:06 p.m. PST

For my Savage Worlds Games anywhere from 6 to 12.

Maddaz11106 Feb 2013 5:10 p.m. PST

2-4 or 6-8, plus an umpire or opfor controller.

I like massive multiplayer skirmish games if they are quick, but most of the time I am happy with slower more complex and involved games with a small handful of players.

SaintGermaine06 Feb 2013 5:22 p.m. PST

Skippy likes to tell people to shut up or be quiet. Mostly me.
I'm thinking of getting him a tshirt that says:

Prepare
to
Shutup

SaintGermaine06 Feb 2013 5:23 p.m. PST

Richardmkii

Holy Crap.. that must be chaos
Although I'd love to hear about your Savage Worlds games
What genre?

Ron W DuBray06 Feb 2013 5:58 p.m. PST

lots of solo, only play others at the one con I get to go to every year.

John the OFM06 Feb 2013 6:11 p.m. PST

We average 5-7.

wrgmr106 Feb 2013 6:24 p.m. PST

Our group has 13 regulars and a couple of casuals.
We average 8 to 10 a night. If we have over 6 we usually put on two games.

Mooseworks806 Feb 2013 6:48 p.m. PST

Mostly solo, but my college son comes by every other week for games and magic tg.

Bohemund06 Feb 2013 7:12 p.m. PST

Currently lots of one-on-one. Really enjoying that. I played mostly group games of four to ten for decades.

I'm blessed with a wealth of games and gamers so it can go from a one v one to six plus per side depending upon game and inclination.

53Punisher06 Feb 2013 11:32 p.m. PST

Solo only, no choice due to nobody around anymore… I miss the old days and the guys in my group.

I'm getting ready to plan my annual "Last Man Standing" game of GUTSHOT at OwlCon (a local convention here in Houston). I routinely have 10-14 players at this event. A lot of the same old faces show up each year, but I also get a lot of newbies, too. It's usually a fun time for all.

Martin Rapier07 Feb 2013 3:18 a.m. PST

There are 40 plus in our club, and I used to regularly run games for six players (plus umpire).

As my regular group has dwindled these days there are usually just three of us for a normal weekly game (like last night, although we had a couple of spectators). For something spectacular (like a big Fletcher Pratt game) we can rouse up to a dozen and at the last big operational game we had twenty.

corporalpat07 Feb 2013 5:40 a.m. PST

2-4 is about the usual, but sometimes more.

vtsaogames07 Feb 2013 6:46 a.m. PST

Board gamers seem to have more solo players, at least that's the impression I get from reading Board Game Geek. I do wonder how many solo miniatures gamers there are.

Tom Reed07 Feb 2013 7:36 a.m. PST

If I run a game at home my game room will comfortably hold 6 players. When we play at the FLGS we usually have 4-6 players, occasionally we will have 8.

Patrick Sexton Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2013 7:40 a.m. PST

6-10 depending on the game size and time of year.

peterx Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2013 8:30 a.m. PST

2 people most of the time. I run games at cons with 6-10 people, as well as playing games with 4-10 people.

Midpoint07 Feb 2013 9:47 a.m. PST

Our club runs a multi-player game every First Tuesday. Varies between 5-15 typically. Last Tuesday was Mordheim, but we mix it up quite a lot and have recently had RCW, Napoleonics, naval games etc.

Acts to mix us up a bit and allows chaps to sample games/periods they wouldn't get to access otherwise.

Old Contemptibles10 Feb 2013 4:38 a.m. PST

Between four and seven.

Dasher14 Feb 2013 6:12 p.m. PST

Two (usually), four to six (occasionally), sixteen (rarely) up to twenty-four (extremely rare).

manyslayer11 Jul 2018 6:10 p.m. PST

Missing the option of don't even have time to play solo.

UshCha12 Jul 2018 2:59 a.m. PST

Interesting therad. Serious play for me requires 2 players so planning actually happens. Almost all multi player games games are hopeless with players not being either inexperienced or just hopeless at my club, worse are the gamblers who just want to throw die. Sometimes with a beginner it will be 3 player if we need a certain outcome from a scenario and to unload the beginner while he get the hang of it.
