I like the uniform and the basic effects – faces are very effective I think the helmets are little more green than I am used to – to be honest, I paint my Soviets with the helmet almost the same colour as the uniform |

Ditto on the helmets, I use an olive drab or a darker green. Good paint work though. |

I like them. The most important thing is they will look nice at the usual wargame table distances. The faces will stand out. |

Absolutely brilliant, although another vote for the helmets being a bit too green. Fatman And the SCW Nationalists and Requettes further down the page are even better. |

Thanks guys. I will be painting another platoon. These troops will be Airfix Russians. (Skills Test!) Anyway I will try a lighter shade of green on the helmet. Dave |

I like the bright green a lot, and use it on mine. It makes them stand out as distinctly Russian. This is no small point as the Soviets adopted more and more "Russian-ization" policies through the war, transitioning their uniforms towards green to recall Russia's national colors. The faces look nice! I don't have the patience to do more than a wash for WWII faces. |

The helmets aren't too bad, maybe you could dry brush them to get the right effect which is more of a mustard/light olive green. Mix & match lighter jackets with darker pants a little more to represent different issues and supplies sources – Russian uniforms were famous for being mismatched in fabric type as well as color. BTW Esci messed up with the Maxim MG's in that set – they feed from right to left, not the other way around! To fix this, I cut the ammo belt away and gave it to the gunner, making a new gunner from a prone rifleman. The old loader is teamed up with an LMG gunner or anti tank rifleman |
