The problem is that in the last 13 years or so, a portion of Canadian pennies were ferrous (stuck to magnets) and great for basing. I need to do a second sweep of my penny jars to find the good condition non-ferrous ones as backups. |

I've been hoarding for the last six months. It should do me for a few years. |

After having everything rounded to the nearest nickle all day yesterday, at 8:30 I stopped for a late dinner, and got my last two pennies in change, ever. And they were new and ferrous! |

When the penny sized metal washers cost five pence each

Which explains why they're getting rid of the penny! Our pennies are non-ferrous, so it's washers for me. Lats order I got from my hardware store. I got a raised eyebrow or two when I asked them to order me ten boxes. I was thrilled because they had 3/4" diameter with just a 1/8" center hole. Perfect for mounting 15mm

I've got enough pennies horded for the foreseeable future, but given that my entire 28mm collection is based on (Canadian) pennies I can see the time when I'll have to plunder the monetary supply of our great neighbour to the south for basing supplies
