I am searching for highly stylized miniatures to use in boardgames and miniature gaming (like very old toy soldiers, little details, made for glossy paint, …). The scale can be anything between 10 and 35 mm and the subject almost everything except fantasy and space. I like the Eureka Toy town soldiers range link but would like something a little more realistic. I am also very fond of the 10mm Civilians by Thoroughbred Miniatures link but they are not that useful in a war game. Any suggestions are well come.
Sincerely
Max

Minifigs in 15mm would probably really suit. They strike me as very "toy solder" in a good way, and have a huge rnge (though no space/fantasy).

I tried to search for "Minifigs" but ended up with lots of hits from many makers. Do you know who makes them, if they still are produced and where I can find them?

Prince August home cast – very little detail, so perfect for toy soldier style.

If only Peter laing were still going…

I tried Price August but they are a bit too large. Still it is fun to make my own minis. I Googled Peter Laing and the were perfect. Maby a bit small for boardgames but perfect for miniature gaming. And then I found out that the molds are lost. Sigh. Any other ideas.

The colonial soldiers looks great. Do you have any information about size and price? I searched the site but could not find any information.

Then if Minifigs are too detailed try the old Scruby figures from historifigs.com

they have very inexpensive sampler sets.

I take the catalogue offline during the winter to stop people ordering then having a long wait. Easiest thing to do was to put them back online for a while to let you see the range – I'll leave it there till tomorrow. Casting restarts beginning of March:

Also worth looking at are the Jacklex figures from Spencer Smith:

These are completely compatible with the Rose 20mm, biggest pain is ordering them! – though I see that you can now use PayPal and it seems to be a bit easier – still can't do it directly though.

Thanks a lot Rob. The Rose 30 mm series is also great. I found other series in the old 1965 catalogue, do you produce the as well?. I was thinking of the Egypt and French Indian War Series.

Try Spencer Smith: 30mm

The Egyptian and French Indian Wars figures in the 65 Rose catalogue are 54mm – they are still available, just not from me, I only have rights to 30mm and below. They did do some 30mm Napoleonics which I might be trying out again but they didn't do very well last time I tried it.

The Prestige Egyptians are nice figures and basically 'true' 25mm.

Max – saw you were interested in the old Peter Laing figures – since the moulds have gone missing, one of my friends over in the US has been handcasting some – what in particular are you interested in?
