From 2011 onwards, Perry twins have been first revealing their upcoming plastic sets in the Salute wargame convention. With 11 weeks left to the convention, perhaps it would be time to start speculation on what will be shown this year?

Salute 2011 saw the three-ups for 15th century mounted men-at-arms, Napoleonic Austrian and Russian infantry, ACW confederates and AWI British (to be released next month).

Salute 2012 saw three-ups for only two sets, but these were for an entirely new range – British and Germans for the WWII in North Africa. The British are currently under tooling, and the Germans will be the next ones in queue for such treatment.

So what and how many new plastic sets can we expect to see revealed in Salute 2013? Will they be additions to existing plastic ranges (late 15th century, AWI, Napoleonics, ACW, Colonials, WWII), plastic sets to supplement existing metal ranges, or perhaps even the beginning of some brand new range? Might there also be some new plastic building set displayed?

Feel free to speculate about what will be first displayed there – in late April we will find out who managed to guess closest.

Plastic continentals and militia.

My suggestion or wish would be for some more Napoleonic cavalry that have multiple uses such as Cossacks and Napoleonic Lancers. Cossacks with the right components could be used from 18th century to 20th century and the lancers with the right headgear could be used for French, Austrian, Russian as well as many minor nations.

28mm SHADO operatives, Moonbase girls and astronauts, aliens, and various other items, including UFOs, Interceptors, SkyOne, and Moonhoppers.

I think that they will do a box of foot men at arms at some point. All of the parts are already sculpted.

I would expect American infantry for AWI.

If they are really bold, they could start Biblical armies with plastic Egyptians and plastic Chariots.

Griefbringer03 Feb 2013 3:52 a.m. PST

My guess list would be as follows:

1.) AWI American troops (to oppose the Brits)
2.) WWII Italians for North Africa (also to oppose the Brits)
3.) Napoleonic cavalry of some sort (maybe Austrian, Prussian or Russian)

On my personal wish list, I would like to see another set of late 15th century European cavalry, with lighter armour and weapons than the ones in the men-at-arms set, but utilising the same horses. Not holding too high hopes for this, though.

Since this thread seems to be for us dreamers, I would like to see their never commercially available line of 10mm WSS figs……(well go all the way Tom….) …..in plastic!

Thinking about it, WW2 Germans and WW2 British in standard uniforms will be very easy as they only need to do new bodies and can reuse all the other parts.

I don't see plastic WW2 Italians as a priority for them. They may bring a few in metal to test to see if there is enough interest.

I would like to see some light late medieval cavalry cavalry too.

After thinking about the process (need for 3 ups), I'd settle for those 10mm WSS in metal! The molds must exist….why not release the range?

Not sure about the DAK models, but from what I have seen the British Desert Rats seem to be predominantly wearing short sleeves on the arms. This could be a problem with re-using them as is – thus necessitating resculpting and re-tooling of the arms.

Agree with 6sided about American revolutionaries. I wonder what has become of the Prussian reserves which seemed ready to follow after ACW rebs and even before WWII. Other than that, napoleonics; Austrian cavalry looks like a logic decision, as does British heavy cavalry (dragoons).

Redlancer3803 Feb 2013 9:21 a.m. PST

At least one set of plastic cavalry for the Napoleonic Austrians, Prussians and Russians.

Plastic Napoleonic artillery!

Timmo uk03 Feb 2013 9:23 a.m. PST

I expect we'll see the Continentals and Militia next plus another 1815 cavalry set. My personal wish would be that they did ECW foot and horse but I can't see them ever doing them since Warlord have already covered that market.

My guess is that we won't see a new period from them this year.

The Perrys will go big for 1806 Prussians.

For Napoleonic cavalry:British Dragoons

TMP link

"Why make hussars first, and not, say, dragoons? Well, these are the only British cavalry whose uniform didn't change (apart from the headgear) throughout the whole war. This, of course, doesn't mean there won't be dragoons……"

@ Dogged
now that you mention it,The Prussian Reserve were indeed announced at Salute 2011.Together with the Russians,Austrians,Rebs…Hope they'll arrive someday.
Would make great conversions.

I think they did the Foundry figs,so why not…lets say…
The Crimean War?

HobgoblinBT05 Feb 2013 11:41 a.m. PST

To add to the European range how about Landsknechts?

Griefbringer06 Feb 2013 7:02 a.m. PST

To add to the European range how about Landsknechts?

For the scope of that range (1450-1500) the current plastic mercenary box actually works quite decently for Landsknechts. Those fancy buff-and-slash styles really pop into existence in the early decades of the 16th century.

We already know that AWI will get more plastics so that seems very obvious

Maybe some more WW2 stuff.

essayons703 Mar 2013 12:45 p.m. PST

I just noticed some greens of WW2 Italians on the Perry website.

Don't know if they are going to be metal or plastic.

EDIT: Yeah, if I just paid attention, I would have noticed they are in the METALS workbench section…

Griefbringer23 Mar 2013 2:02 a.m. PST

Well, if they are previewing metal Italians now, then I guess it would be quite unlikely that they would reveal plastic Italians in Salute.

Checking the calendar, there seems to be exactly four weeks to wait until Salute starts. So ample time for speculation and wild guesses.

(On another note, Perry twins have mentioned that the plastic WWII Brits might be out by Salute, if they get lucky.)

Carlist infantry to drum up more interest in the Carlist Wars range, plenty of scope for conversions ?

Follows on from the use of plastics to drive metal ranges in AWI, Napoleonics, ACW and WoR / late medieval

cheers

Actually, with their ACW and WotR ranges, the plastics were the first kits to be released, with the metals released later on to supplement them. And looks like their WWII range will be the same.

But with AWI, Napoleonics and Sudan they started with metals and later on added plastics.

Mick in Switzerland01 Apr 2013 10:06 a.m. PST

I think many people would welcome plastic ACW or Napoleonic artillery sets.

Plastic 8th Army are up on the Perry site for pre orders.

I was thrilled by the 15th century stuff, I was totally bumbed out by the WWII stuff.

This year I'm hoping for AWI American militia.

My long shot wish would be for new metal sets of Wotr Scots and Irish.

Griefbringer09 Apr 2013 10:18 a.m. PST

Perrys are dropping cryptical hints in a recent news item:

The plastic Afrikakorps are in tooling next, and in the meantime, the first of the WWII Italian metal codes will be available very shortly. There should also be a couple of related surprises on our stand at Salute as well, and one or two unrelated 'three-ups'.

One more week until Salute – time to air your last minute speculations!

Griefbringer21 Apr 2013 6:25 a.m. PST

Salute is now over, and based on the report the actual newly revealed sets will be as follows:

1.) ACW artillery
2.) AWI continental infantry
3.) Late medieval "foot knights" (dismounted men-at-arms)
4.) Late medieval light cavalry

Did anybody manage to guess more than one of those?

Mick in Switzerland21 Apr 2013 8:50 a.m. PST

I got three! :-)

(..four if you count the comment "I think people would welcome ACW artillery).
