Hi guys,

Years ago I started a blog that I intended to discuss 3mm miniatures on. But then I did nothing about it. I've decided now to actually get onto it and start posting some stuff. I've started with a couple of posts abot the 3mm Cold War demo game I recently ran at Cancon 2013 (Australia's premier gaming convention).

The posts, with pictures, can be seen at:

bish

Yay! Added Tiny Tanks link to the Lead Doesn't Bleed blog!

I love your hex terrain, by the way. I'd do things that way myself if I had access to reasonably priced hexes. But since I live in Brazil, I have to make do with locally available materials.

By the way, I copied your original woodlands and city areas idea, so it's no wonder we're thinking along the same lines!

Ahhh – now I know where all of my miniatures gone… ;)

Great looking terrain and nice battle report – I hope for more.

Cheers
Marcin

Fantastic to see the large scale allowing the Soviet OA to show both its merits and deficiencies. The leading US companies being buried by a tsunami of metal (lead?) Were pretty memorable.

I think such a large offensive would have had heli-borne troops tasked with exploiting the situation, acting as cut offs, take key terrain features (using coup de main) or threaten redeployments. How did you simulate the Div rec- CP-AG-Bat-Reg deployment schedule, I remember playing TacOps 3 and getting buried by such an escalating force.

3mm sems the way forward for large scale games.

Hmmm, I'm thinking the representation of the recce, advance guard, vanguard, main body etc. could be a good topic for a blog post. Keep an eye out for a post on this…

Don't forget flank security, and recon-counter recon battles. The bit the Egyptians forgot about in 73, whilst sticking to Soviet mainforce deployments and we know how that turned out.

I'd also think at your scale Scud type weapons would be released from Army reserves. For those saying Nato were short changed with airpower, so were the Soviets. For such an engagement regiments of aircraft and helicopters would be used. Maybe though they have burned through their frontal aviation in previous battles an have precious little, same for Nato.

Terrain was excellent, not too keen on the hexes but I guess it helps move units without fiddly measuring.
