I just put a post up on my blog explaining how I base my ships as I'm in the middle of rebasing all my 1:3000 pre-dreadnoughts / Ironclads and some people have been asking me how I did them.
Here's a picture of one finished and the link to the post hope it's helpful

Beautiful work! So how many do you have to re-base? Not a pleasant chore, but definitely well worth it!

I donīt know if I would rig them though. In my experience ships of this size just donīt look good with rigging, but your mileage may, of course, vary. Either way, great looking ships!

Very nice work. The paint job and basing are excellent.

Thanks guys glad you like them :)

I have to rebase 11 French, 19 royal navy, 4 Italian, 5 ottoman, 2 American and 2 German…. and another navwar shipment on its way to me as I type. So I should be busy for a while but to be honest they don't take that long to do and like you say it is worth it. I'm also adding masts and painting in a bit more detail as I go along, HMS inflexible just doesn't look right without masts to me.

I think I'm with you on the rigging its probably a step to far

I add masts as well, otherwise they look kind of naked. I re-based several hundred navwar and wtj ships a few years ago and I am very happy I did.

Good luck on your project, and feel free to post more pics grin

Thanks Texas Jack, I'll post more as I get through them. How do the Navwar and Wtj ships look together?

Texas Jack05 Feb 2013 7:41 a.m. PST

The ships look fine together on the table, though I wouldnīt mix ships of the same class perhaps. But of course, upon closer inspection the WTJs are just fantastic, little works of art!

Thanks for the info might have to get a few myself to supplement my Navwar ships.
