At least the Taiwanese weren't as provocative as their mainland neighbors. They sent fishing boats armed with water cannons instead of warships of the ROC Navy. And yes, according to wikipedia Taiwan has a small but modern navy comprising of four destroyers and 22 frigates: 4 Kidd Class Destroyers, 8 Knox Class Frigates, 6 French Lafayette Class Frigates, and 8 domestically built long-hulled Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigates. They also 4 four subs, 12 patrol ships and 31 missile boats. |

a small but modern navy comprising of four destroyers and 22 frigates Actually by today's standards that's a huge Navy in terms of hull numbers. Compare to: Royal Navy: 6 destroyers + 13 frigates Royal Australian Navy (planned): 3 destroyers + 8 frigates (currently 12 frigates). Canadian Navy: 3 destroyers + 12 frigates. Italian Navy: 4 destroyers + 12 frigates Italians and Brits have light carriers, LHDs etc but that actually reduces number of ships available due to need for escorts. |
