So I finally went ahead and got some instamold and. have casted it with greenstuff and per someone's suggestions on her got some durham rock hard.

I have attempted to cast some things things like 28mm arms and legs I have made with durham and the finished cast always break in the mold, when i go to get it out. The main appeal of the Durham for me is the cost. I paid 2 bucks for 4 lbs of it, for the one sided terrain pieces i Have made, the instant mold and durham has worked great and been awesome. But so far all my attempts to do anything "thin" doesnt hold up. Any suggestion on what I could do to solve this problem? I saw a reference to the fact that dentalstone is nothing but a mixture of a plaster component like durham and cement and to get a stronger cast mixing the two would work. I however can not find that reference again.

Or if I moved up to hydrocal would that work better? Like i said the durham was super cheap "found it on sale" and thought why not try it for 2 bucks see how it goes.

Oyumaru /Instamold are the same product does anyone know if the material has another name? Both products are advertised as molding material and I have a large terrain piece I wouldnt mind making a copy of but I have nowhere near enough to try to mold it and was hoping Oyumaru /Instamold were repacked something so I could get my hands on alot of it.

Advice that will more than likely help solicit more responses –

Use some punctuation. Your posts make my head hurt trying to read them. You are writing like you are texting your buddies.

Just saying….

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Hydrocal would be stronger than plaster, but I am not sure if it would be stronger than Durhams. The water based casting materials will never be as strong as something epoxy based (green stuff) and I would be hesitant to use it for mini limbs or pieces.

If you don't want to press epoxy putties into your mold, there are several liquid epoxy resins designed specifically for casting. For small simple molds, I prefer to use Alumilite fast cure "Amazing" link They sell small kits aimed at hobby casters. It should not heat up enough to deform the Instamold, but no promises.

I use a product similar to Instamold that I found on Amazon.com called The Missing Link, a moldable Plastic. They have many amounts from $2.99 USD an ounce to $29.99 USD for 20 ounces.

Well sorry typed it on my phone, quickly so if anyone had any advice i could use when i got home and before i ran any more casts.

My research kinda lead me to believe the same thing, in regards to the "plaster stuff" i was asking about, tht it would be incompatible for me trying to replicate limbs etc. I am by no means a good sculptor, i think what i have done myself so far are unusual thick but still to thin to withstand me taking them out of the molds. :(

I will have to look into the missing link stuff or actually go ahead and make actually molds. for my purposes the instamold has more or less been enough so thought i would stay with it if possible.

does it work basically the same?
