When I was a student in college the scene shop had a power tool similar to a jigsaw, with a shortish blade that projected down and could rotate freely. It was similar to a router in appearance and use, in that it had a surface that lay against the stock to maintain a 90 degree angle- but with a reciprocating blade instead of a rotating cutting bit. I can't remember what it was called… I am hoping you can point me in the right direction. I guess it could best be described as a jigsaw that is held like a router, and be advanced in any direction realated to the base, not just forward as a typical jigsaw. It was used for scroll saw like cutting, on things that couldn't be manhandled onto the actual bench mounted scroll saw.

I seem to recall it had a vintage name like 'Sawzall' but that's not what it was… it's not a typical reciprocating saw, jigsaw, router, or scroll saw. The two I've seen, and it's been a long time, seemed like they were made in the 60's. Thanks in advance!
