Read it on my blog

and tell me what you think.

Excellent report, personally I dislike card driven games and in Black Powder feel that the 'blunder' system causes enough (realistic) loss of command. I knew Maurice used cards, but did not know how. The examples you've provided though, certainly make it look more interesting than I had assumed!

You've mentioned (or explained) features which I've not read about in other "reviews". Thank you; you've made "Maurice" sound a lot more interesting. I will probably download the "light" version and give it a read now.

By the way, were you playing the free "light" version or the full rule set?

If he had national characteristics and personalities, he had the full rule set (and card deck).

Quite right. I bought the ruleset complete with cards. One will not work without the other and the two are only sold together, as far as I know.

There is more to the game besides the things mentioned in this review, but one game can only show you so much.

I will come back to the topic in the future.

BTW, the light version is a pale shadow of the proper game,

I would not recommend it as a 'tester' to anyone unless they had absolutely no way of finding anything else about the game.

For those who come along later, here's a perma-link to Pijlie's blog post:

(The review is quite useful, which is why I make the effort to add the link correction.)

Hi Guys
Nice review Pijile. Thanks for sharing.
I'll admit I'm a big fan of MAURICE.
I've posted a few AARs on my blog if anyone is interested:
