Our new blog post about a "nice" miniature
link link We' ll paint her boots black leather
but the uniform? Let us know your preferred colour! |

I think a dark blue does well as a hussar uniform and also contrasts well with warm flesh tones. Silver/white as appropriate for the trim. I've been tempted to get that mini but have not come up with an excuse for it (I like to at least rationalise them into one of my existing forces). x42 |

I like how the hair was done. |
Justin Penwith | 27 Jan 2013 6:23 a.m. PST |
One of Massena's mistresses, kitted out as a hussar. Seems like a reasonable way to "fit her in" to me. :) |

TMP link This iwas posted to TMP. Also, Hinterland has female hussars. |

Hot pink or shocking pink and black? Sky blue and yellow or garance à la hussards de Lauzun?
Photo blocked by adult filter: "picture" Many examples of mid-18th C. hussars of a number of nationalities on the Kronoscaf site link Several examples of painted Hinterland Hussarettes in the 'customers gallery' of the manufacturer: link -a variation on the bright red and pinkish cream theme could look feminine yet credible for a military uniform. Now cuisse de nymphe link / link would be a
troubling possibility

Oh come on folks
..do you have wives, daughters or girlfriends you would be willing to share this with? Half naked women (however gorgeous
and she is) in a model figurine
is that not a bit sad? She is a fantasy
she is not going to find a light cavalry rig to fit like that
Even allowing for the different tailorings tyles of the 1810s. Don't paint them or collect them
court them and then respect them. Wargamers have that reputation, slightly less weird than survivalist assault rifle owners from the Western US
.but get a real life. To quote Monty Python
"This is getting too silly" |
Jlundberg | 27 Jan 2013 11:34 a.m. PST |
block the forum if you don't like it. I celebrate the female form in the person of my wife, in pictures and miniatures |
Phil McCrackin | 27 Jan 2013 11:53 a.m. PST |
And whats so weird about survivalist assault rifle owners from the Western US? "She who must be obeyed" is Mormon and grew up in a family that did the food storage thing. Shes into it too. I own a Modern Sporting Rifle – see, I live about 20 minutes from any possible police response and a few of my neighbors houses have been broken into recently. Being the sort who's often home but in the basement so it looks like I'm not home, its a smart thing to have. To you we're "Survivalist Assault Rifle Owners from the Western US", but we're not the weird kids, its you city slickers who want to be surrounded by people and dependent on government services who are the weirdos. |

Who makes that figure? I'd like to acquire one or two. |
Porthos | 27 Jan 2013 1:35 p.m. PST |
deadhead: I have absolutely no problem with showing this or even less dressed female figures to my wife and to my daughter (since my eldest granddaughter is four, I'll wait a couple of years (;-)). I think it's a pity she wears a shako instead of a colback: she would be a great companion of Lieutenant Flashman
|
Buff Orpington | 27 Jan 2013 2:08 p.m. PST |
Porthos, a measured and sensible response. You're also bang on about Flashman. |
Huscarle | 27 Jan 2013 2:10 p.m. PST |
Nice figure, wish she had some trews on though. Dr Mathias, It's a Rastl World figure rastlworldminis.com/shop As for painting, I would go for the British 11th Hussars, "The Cherry-pickers" :D |
Frederick | 27 Jan 2013 2:14 p.m. PST |
Well, to answer the original question I would go with dark blue with silver trim and red facings |

abdul666lw | 27 Jan 2013 2:56 p.m. PST |
Personally, with respect to figures, I never understand the attraction of vignettes showing a winner finishing off a helpless wounded foe, but that's just me, of course; I'm not you. A pity she she wears a shako instead of a 'generic' busby: she would be useable in any period from the War of Polish Succession to Victorian times. |

A "Modern Sporting Rifle" is not an assault rifle
you'd need fully automatic or burstfire capability to warrant that designation. Ownership of actual assault rifles is rather strictly regulated
Clearly the comment was directed at Western survivalists that own actual assault rifles, and not you

I painted one in a version of the chasseuar a cheval of the garde, and the "panties only" thing annoyed me so I painted her in tight breeches I will post some pics up when I sort the front room out. and yes I do mostly agree with you deadhead, there is a sense of obviously offensive objectifying in these sorts of figures. I most definitely wouldn't expect much other than a contemptuous look at the least and an arguement at the worst from most of the women I know, if I was stupid enough to show them.15 year old boys go a bit funny over them so that is , in itself, enough said. |
Lion in the Stars | 27 Jan 2013 4:15 p.m. PST |
Ownership of actual assault rifles is rather strictly regulated
and very bloody expensive. $20,000 USD or so for the rifle, IF you can find one for sale. $200 USD to Uncle Sam for the Tax Stamp (and background check), which you might get in 6 months. And then you need to feed the beast, at $1 USD/shot or more. ========== I agree with Porthos: she'd be a great companion for Flashy, since it seems that most women have trouble keeping their clothes on around him. |
epturner | 27 Jan 2013 6:33 p.m. PST |
Well, I still think it in nice pastel colours would be luv'erly. And use some Horse Racing colours as a guide. I'd buy that. AND give it to SWMBO, just because. Eric |
vojvoda | 27 Jan 2013 7:15 p.m. PST |
I think just the opposite. She should be in correct uniform, with correct button flaps and turnbacks for what ever Regiment she had hooked up will on campaign. And yes I do at times have gun(s)and have a Helen of Troy in 25mm with bare breast. I just purchased some Cult figures from Bob Murch and some Nazi She Wolves this weekend from Anna (Mrs RBLS Bobby Shop) without so much of a blink of the eye. I also got the new Valcano Queen just released. So sue me. VR James Mattes |

"the "panties only" thing annoyed me so I painted her in tight breeches" Indeed panties on such a figurine would be plain silly: by Napoleonic times women did not use underwear yet: for obvious reasons burlesque and cancan dancers were the first adult women to wear panties. Historical accuracy deserves respect Besides, painting underwear on this kind of winsome warrior would make her look like
Photo blocked by adult filter: "picture" link "I most definitely wouldn't expect much other than a contemptuous look at the least and an arguement at the worst from most of the women I know, if I was stupid enough to show them." Then we definitively don't see the same kind of women: all my female colleagues at the univ liked my Amazon army.

yes Abdul..Greywolf like my rendering of the miniature, and he knows a thing or two about painting 28mm scantily clad females. |

I need to get one like this in 1/72 plastic. Anybody have any good ideas for where I could get one or any possible conversion ideas? A compulsory 'ADC' model for any campaign involving the rapacious Massena. |
korsun0 | 28 Jan 2013 9:58 a.m. PST |
Gawd it's a hunk of metal, not a slave girl at the markets
..personally i think it's a well executed sculpt, no more or no less offensive than some Hollywood styled warrior with his meat and 2 veg flapping in the breeze. |
abdul666lw | 28 Jan 2013 12:52 p.m. PST |
Wargamers have that reputation, slightly less weird than <snip>
.but get a real life. Precisely: all people I met who were
disturbed, or even shocked, by our hobby were so by the very concept of 'gaming war' far, far more than by any type of figurine used. Go out your Ivory Tower. |

In my experience -and there was already a *lot* of 'cheesecake' in fantasy armies 30-35 years ago female (and generally very scantily clad) minis were perceived as an 'attenuating feature', their presence softening the 'bloodthirsty warmonger' image of the wargamer; besides, men understood *at least* this facet of the hobby, and women appreciated those fighting females making the game less 'macho / sexist'. . 'fantasy warrior wearing as much mail as one would with a bikini swimsuit' "This is getting too silly" Actually what is SILLY in the (in)famous chainmail bikini, once understood that it is not armor but a device of psychological warfare, is the top, the bra. Why so? Because the taboo on female breast in an odd peculiarity of the 3 religions of the Bible, reflecting the 'Hellspawn Temptress' nature of the Woman since the Apple Incident. *All* other civilizations / cultures ignored it. Even in Europe it did not existed yet, or not strongly, in the Middle ages, see contemporary art including in the cathedrals. It appeared progressively in the Late Renaissance when the taboo on women hair (the 'real one, see Paul Corinthians I) was fading away. During the Middle Ages European men and women could bath together, provided the women kept their hair concealed by a coif. Thus there is no reason to imagine that in any 'alternate' but not 'Abrahamanic' Ancient / Medieval culture this peculiar taboo would exist: neither in the Hyborian world of Conan, nor in the universes of 'The Sword of Truth', 'The Wheel of Time', 'The game of Thrones', 'The Black Company'
It probably exists in the worlds of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, of course. And it certainly was not in place '1 million years B.C.', nor could be in among the natives of any 'Lost World / 7th Continent at the Earth's core'! Demonstrating btw that, were our Republics as 'secular' a several claim to be, their law would not enforce this purely religious taboo |

A woman flashing her cleavage doesn't help the Macho sexist thing. Reinforces it. Not that I'm complaining. The figure looks alright, face looks a bit butch. Great fantasy/Sci fi figure. a little sexist perhaps. She could have been made attractive and still dressed. Maybe some traveling brothel dresses its s in army uniforms. Prefer my girls prettier and in the flesh
. This has the ring of those anime guys who get all hot n bothered over cartoons. |

A woman flashing her cleavage doesn't help the Macho sexist thing. Reinforces it. Depends upon the local cultural background: seemingly in France we are far less traumatized by nipples than on the other side of the pond: Photo blocked by adult filter: "picture" Do you see anything 'macho / sexist' here? Quite the opposite, the bare-breasted woman is the leader. |

Delacroix, (self portrait as the lad with the topper who cannot take his eyes off her, as I recall) was clearly not too good at capturing the ladies at their best. Liberty does have "strong features" and the implants are asymmetric
.perhaps the left one has leaked its silastic? I've always wondered at the plight of the lad in a night shirt and one blue sock and quite how he came to be "aux barricades" quite so "deshabille". Also, what is the intent of the lad with the bonnet de police and a sharp sword with regards to this unfortunate. He certainly has a determined look about him. Let's not see these folk in 28mm please! |
