Miniatures from my collections describe more concepts, answer questions and take care of a few misconceptions. They do the talking with others. I hope you will find them interesting and even funny.

Celebrated Troopers Ham and Corey, 10th Hussars, on leave from the General Pettygree Colonial blog will take you to The Wild Goose Inn. Why not go along with 'em, if you please.

Take a look. There is more about BAR's 18th Century and also into the 19th Century that will perhaps surprise you. If anything -- you will see some curious characters, scenes and mayhem.

Respectfully,
Bill

How many pieces has an Austrian btg and a Prussian btg in BAR?

Costanzo,
As many as you want.
We do sixty but you don't have to.
20, 24, 30, 40, 48, 60, 100 – whatever you want.
Cheers,
Bill

Bill and I use a 1:10 ratio of castings to actual men. We assume that an average battalion during the mid 18th Century had 600 men. At 1:20 this would yield 30 figures and at 1:30 it would be 20 figures. You can tweak the unit sizes to your own specifications

My Prussian infantry battalions are 60 figures and most of my Austrians are the same, although originally I used 54 figures, but later upsized them by 6 figures so that they would be competitive with the prussians.

Are there automatic losses due to attrition or a unit can fight with lucky dies until the end of the game without losses? Thanks at all.

If you can roll all the saves to need to counteract the losses from artillery and infantry fire, then the unit could survive without losses throughout a game. But I doubt if anybody is as lucky as that. I know I am not!

For each hit, you get to make a saving throw. Generally, a roll on a D6 of 4,5,6 saves close order infantry from musket fire, and 5,6 are needed to save from artillery fire. Open order troops save on 3,4,5,6 as does armored cavalry.

The saving roll process is fairly fast and not as time consuming as one might think. Once you know how many hits you have received, then the thought process is nearly automatic.

You do not need to take morale checks until your unit goes below 50% of its original strength.

Regiments tend to get shot up fairly quickly once the firing begins.

I have added B.A.R. to my new rules directory. I am currently working on a SYW section as I consider diving into the period myself. You can read it here:
