I was reminded of this because somebody posted color WW2 picks earlier: loc.gov/exhibits/empire It's an exhibition of color photos taken by the Tsar's photographer. Basically, he took three black-and-white photos simultaneously, each with their own color filter. Displaying them used the reverse process. One of my favorites from the collection:
