I want a Hugh Jarce figure. I can't find it on the Lardies website. Was it a one off given away free for buying something else? |

Thanks John, order away. Any idea if the Lardies will be casting a Sheik Yerbouti figure for moderns? |

Did you know that if you say his name quickly it sounds childishly rude!

Actually the Arabic characters we did were Yupis Yussulf and Ashid Mhdras. In our defence, some people do seem to get very exorcised by the "silly" names we do sometimes use, and Hugh was a big nod in that direction. I am firmly in the camp which says that one can make serious studies of warfare, produce rules which model that in a credible manner but, at the same time are still fun and allow the players to enjoy a convivial evening of fun gaming. The "silly" names are merely a reflection of that. Now, that is not a universally held veiw; I have had two emails today telling me that I am puerile and that is bad for the image of wargaming. But it, life's too short to worry about upsetting cumudgeonly old sticks. We shall continue to have fun with history regardless of our knockers. And there's a pun in there for you too Dom! Rich |

Sorry chaps, I should also point out that Hugh Jarce is actually based on Captain Hurricane, a classic British comic character, hence the lantern jaw. He's a damned fine looking chap too. Rich |

toofatlardies, I for one am not offended. I wasn't either when I heard the name for the first time on the 'Benny Hill Show' in the 1980s. We shall continue to have fun with history regardless of our knockers Matron!! |

Bravo Rich! Your attitude is one of the things I appreciate most about your rules. Keep up the good work, and tell those stuffed shirts to stuff it a bit more! As for me I'll settle for one good TW&T thank you very much! |

And the last comong from a man who's favourite German characters are "Baron Gruntzundphartz" and "Hans Kneesundbums" |

Could the non-native english speakers have a hint? I've not yet managed to understand the joke and google was no help. |
| Renaud S | 19 Jan 2013 7:10 p.m. PST |
Ok, I think I understand. Is it a matter of softening a "g" in Hugh and dropping a "r" in Jarce ? |
Doms Decals | 19 Jan 2013 7:16 p.m. PST |
For us Brits the pronunciation's the same, as we tend to pronounce and even spell the slang word for bottom as arse not ass, so Hugh Jarce = Huge Arse
. ;-) |

Renaud S, You are getting there! Think British English, not American English. |

Given that the newly painted revolutionary faction for my sci-fi universe is called the People's Revolutionary Industrial Council and Syndicate and that their enemy is the evil Baron Hisa Moder-Fökker, I'm in no position to throw stones. |

Two posts on this figure in as many days. I painted my Hugh Jarce figure today as part of my 14th Army project. I hope to get some images up in the coming days. |

Actually, I think the figure conjures the memory of actor Jack Hawkins--a Brit who in a war film I'd follow anywhere! TVAG |

Jack Hawkins--a Brit who in a war film I'd follow anywhere! I wholeheratedly agree with The Virtual Armchair General. Jack Hawkins – a Colossus in British films. |

I am a fan of British War comics, at least War Picture Library. I find them much better then the Haunted Tank, Sgt Fury's Howling Commandos and Sgt. Rock's Easy company. But then, there is nothing on my side of the Atlantic that compares to Dan Dare, either. Where can I find Captain Hurricane? |

My Russian Generals are Pullispantsov and Makafulov. |

I have a Russian general named Bebadov ("bebado" meaning drunk in Portugese). |

I was thinking more of Jack Watson the R.S.M. in "The Wild Geese" and Cpl. Peacock in "The Devils Brigade" I really can't understand why people get upset by the silly names that Rich & Co. use in their games, it's not like your forced to used the same name if you don't like them. |
