Can anyone comment how useful is this supplement for the Rhodisian Bush Wars if I am not actually using the Iron Ivan rules? How much of it is to do with the rules (which not be of much interest unless they fit in with Disposable Heroes Point Blank which I am ordering) and how much is background info, TOEs, etc (which would be)? |

And here I thought the post was going to be about what paragons of manhood Chalfant and Keith are. Punctuation is a wonderful thing. That aside Allen, while I do not own the Bush War supplement it will probably follow the Iron Ivan format. Which is there will be a brief overview of the conflict, an explanation of the rules, followed by OOB and army lists. I am sure someone will be along soon who does have the supplement to give a better overview. Personally I have enjoyed all the Iron Ivan rules and supplements I have purchased so far. I have played Disposable Heroes for WW II for years, have most of the supplements, or have played games with the other supplements. I have also played there French and Indian War rules set and their WW I rules and both were excellent. |

Howdie. The supplement is mostly dedicated to some background information on the conflict, and many platoon organizations for different troop types. Those are written specifically for the forces, and are not just generic lists. Equipment, helicopters, vehicles, artillery
There are special rules, such as for mine detection vehicles, and for the nature of some troop types. You would not need this book to game Rhodesia with DH: Point Blank. On the other hand, Man Among Men would provide a great deal of information on platoon (including squad) structure and equipment. Chalfant |

Many thanks for all the helpful replies. I have just ordered my copy from North Star who, very kindly are running a sale. Might I also enquire about The Long Road South supplement? I am intending to use Point Blank for small Special Ops/LRRPS games. I assume that the Long Road South supplement might not be required as hardware such as helos and tanks would not feature very much in that type of game: would this be right? Would there be anything in the supplement which would be of much benefit? Alan |

Howdie. As far as LRS, for the type of game you plan on running, you probably don't need it. Lots of information in there, though. This might be of interest, this is the Long Road South Companion, which contains some errata but also lists PLA forces. The LRS Companion is stripped down compared to the full book, but it may give you an idea of what it would hold. ironivangames.com/briefing.html Chalfant |

Stay away from "Man Among Men", Alan. I know the author and he's a jerk! ;-) Seriously though, Chal pretty much beat me to it, but I'll second what he said about MAM. Even if you don't play the Iron Ivan rules there should be prenty of material in the booklet for the gamer interested in the period, including platoon organizations, a couple of pages of general tips about gaming the conflict, and some sample scenarios that give a good over-view of the various types of combat that occured during the Bush War. Oh, and MAM works quite well using the "Point Blank" rules set as well. In fact I will go far as to say certain sorts of actions are actually represented better under Point Blank than under the main Dispoable heroes system. My local gaming group recently played a slightly cut down version of the "Convoy Ambush" scenario featured in MAM using Point Blank and found that it made for an exciting, hard fought, game. Martin |
