During 1875-78 there was the Herzogovinian Uprising and the Montenegrin War both the rebels and Montengrins fielded a skirmish force.

The question I would ask is how this can be structured using the 19thC rukes of Neil Thomas

Have you gone through the files section on the AMW Yahoo Group ?

There are simple skirmish rules for most periods there.

Thomas' rules are fairly simple concepts without alot of moving parts. The mechanisms are designed to be subtle. I am not sure how the rebels and montegrins fought, and what size battles. Maybe you could tell us some more about the nature of conflict there. Neil has rules for the Carlist Wars, some of the Carlists fought in more loose order. For infantry, there are three basic types: close order, loose order and skirmishers. Then there are morale ratings (fanatic, rabble, etc.). Then there are weapon types. If the belligerents during the Herzogovinian Uprising were all skirmishers and the warfare more assymetric, guerilla-style in nature, the rules may not be ideal for you. Thats just my opinion. If they were a combination, you could classify them as fanatic skirmishers and arm them with whatever they used. Maybe add in some extra rules (bonueses/restrictions) to replicate thier particular fighting technique.

I love the rules, I am putting armies together for the Scheslwig Wars, Risorgimento, Austro Prussian War and War of the Pacific…more or less traditional battles. There was a ruleset called Freedom or Death that was written for the Greek War of Independence, similar in concept to Neil's Rules.
