Can anyone comment how suitable DHPB is for Vietnam skirmish games, straight out of the box?

I see that it covers a wide time-scale and wonder if it requires much tweaking.

From some AARs I have read, I noticed markers beside figures: what is the significance of these and can these be avoided to eliminate clutter on the table: I do not like markers that travel round with figures/units in a game as it detracts from the scenery?

Thanks.

With the small number of figures perhaps you can keep a squad roster at the table edge and place the markers there?

For Point Blank, the only markers you will need on the table for infantry is red suppression counters. They don't travel around too much with the models that acquire them (models have to rally before they move, or they can move away to remove them). It could be done with rosters, as was said. Instead of markers, a small dice with the number of suppressions on it beside the mini would work as well.

For Vietnam, it can be used straight out of the box, as it were. The lists and weapons in there are all that you would really need to get games going. For all of the vehicles and platoon lists for US, USMC, ROK, VC, NVA etc. and most of the vehicles in vietnam (including choppers), all compatible with Point Blank is in the book the Long Road South.

Vehicles have their own counters, but using rosters for these is much easier. You would only be handling one or two vehicles per player.

Hope that helps.

As mentioned it is 'straight out of the box' and you can use a roster to make notes about the placement of markers.

You don't need to buy any extra books, but I ended up getting the book for choppers and the vietnam supplement as they added extra detail.
