Hi,

I have just entered the blogosphere:

ramshacklefort.blogspot.co.uk

The topics will be centred around oldhammer gaming (whfb 2/3rd eds, Rogue Trader), with some LotR SBG and aGoT LCG content.

I plan to focus on budget ideas, scenery, recycling minis etc. and promoting narrative gaming, including short fiction and distance campaign/battle reps. All in a light hearted stylee.

If you have a mo, please check out my introductory post and leave constructive criticism at your will.

Many thanks!

Mark

Ditto. Bookmarked. Look forward to reading more of your retro-hammer gaming.

Hi guys, next part of the intro is up on the blog, alongside the hosting of a whole bunch of 80s downloads. Enjoy and if you like what you read, please spread the word to your friends

:-)

Top stuff dude, As this is right up my alley, I'll stick you on my blogroll!
Keep up the good work (Oh and thanks for the WFB3rd link too!)

Interesting approach.
My own is to design my own rules you can still use WFB figures for.
But I never thought WFB was a good game, just popular.
Clearly YMMV.

@AONeill

Having, over the years, created many wargames/RPG rules from scratch & adaptation I can agree that this can be a very rewarding and satisfying approach.

Indeed, when I restarted a collection of reto style 28mm figs I fully intended to pursue this path. Then in a fit of nostalgia I bought all the 4th ed WHFB publications I could find on ebay. After a couple of games, I realised I didnt actually like the game!

Before I could return to plan A, I discovered the oldhammer community and delved deeper into the mechanics and ethos of 3rd ed… It hooked me very quickly.

There is something to be said for using a system which has a community and exists beyond your own home, especially when that community is mature, intelligent, discerning, creative and not at all like the typical demographic sample of modern GW games players.

The other key point with oldhammer is it's emphasis on flexibility – the core book is only a stepping stone to the place you want your game to be at. Imagination still rules supreme.

But please, feel free to comment on my blog posts, It'd be nice to get a dialogue going, all polite opinions are most welcome :-)

I'm looking to get my hands on 3rd edition, as well. No luck yet but I've gotten a couple of buddies to jump back onto 6th edition. So far so good as we play for flavor and not strictly looking to win at all costs.
Now I'm looking to get a copy of Warhammer skirmish so I can lure a few others who are put off by the work needed for normal games of Warhammer.
I believe the rules are fine especially considering one can modify them easily to suit their needs.

Excellent start, Mark! Your blog is the final straw to push me to repurpose my old blog (swordsofminaria.blogspot.com) for my growing fascination with Warhammer Fantasy Battle 3rd Edition. I'll definitely be following your blog closely!

Thanks for encouraging words guys :-)

I bought 3rd to take a look at it some years ago.
Can't see the attraction.

rainbowbluespixie21 Jan 2013 7:37 a.m. PST

I did the same with a Kris Kros album once

On a different subject – photography.
I've switched from using a proper camera to a camera phone ( galaxy note ) for the sake of convenience.
I find if you rest the phone on something solid and you have plenty of light the results are pretty much as good for smallish subjects.
I rely on natural light and use a windowsill, piece of car as a reflector and cloud as a diffuser.

Cheers for the tips,

it's light that is the toughest factor with my Xperia Play, our old 1700's York flat is always in darkness!

Thankfully we'll have a shiny new machine 'ere the week is out!

Hi Mark

Great looking blog. I will follow with interest. The only comment I would make is from the perspective I someone who reads a lot of blogs on iPhone. The black text is quite hard to read against the dark background. I think the smartphone view options can be changed from the control panel.

Aside from that, awesome. I've got 3rd Ed and played a few games. While I really like it, I've ended up collecting more with a view to 4th Ed in the end as I just live the army books of that period. But it is true that 3rd is a great edition! Good work.

cheers Chris,

Apologies about the mobile device problem, I just checked on my phone and yes, for some reason the white background on which posts are normally displayed doesn't appear, making the whole thing illegible! I'll look into it this evening.

I assume you already have the gubbins you need for WHFB4th? I ask as I'm looking to shift my 4th Ed boxed set with Battle Magic, Arcane Magic, Chronicles of War, Realm of Chaos expansions plus Empire, Orcs&Gobs, Undead, Dwarfs, Wood Elves, Chaos, Skaven and High Elves armies books! :-)

Mark

No worries, just thought you might like to know! :) I've now had a read on an actual computer and I love the stuff you are writing about (especially the scratch build hellblaster). I've managed to become both a member and a follower of your website (thanks to the whims of my Google account…).

Will you be eBaying your 4th Ed stuff? I still need Realms of Chaos, Undead, Dwarf, Wood Elf and High Elf books. Oh, and Chronicles of War (which I hadn't even heard of until today… haha). If you like, you can drop me an email at chriswalkley at hotmail dot com.

In any case, I look forward to reading more on your blog. Even though I lean a little more towards 4th Ed, it is definitely the spirit of 3rd Ed I enjoy (I guess I just can't live without my Skaven Doomwheel. Haha).
