I have been mulling over whether or not to purchase Foundry's Flesh Pallet (5A, 5B, 5C) for some time now, but the cost with shipping is discouraging me. $20 USD+ bones for 3 little pots of paint is a ton in my opinion, but if it is a set that will really help my minis pop, I'll do it. Right now I use a two color system with two cheap bottles of craft paint I picked up at Hobby Lobby. My dark shade is a brand called Anita's All-Purpose Acrylic Craft Paint in 11079 (Terra Cotta). My light is Delta's 02126 (Medium Flesh). My process is to glob on the Terra Cotta pretty thick (because if I don't, I,m looking at multiple coats) and highlight with the Med Flesh. After these two steps I wash with Citadel Sepia Wash. Sometimes I will highlight the nose and cheeks again with the Med Flesh afterwards. In addition to these paints I have Citadel Elf Flesh (came in a starter set and is too pink for my taste), Reaper 09111 Burnt Orange (this stuff was a bit too thick when I got it, so I added a bit of water to thin, but it was too much and now it's too thin), and MSP HD 29823 Caucasian Flesh. I just have not been able to put together a combo of these paints that look outstanding with out having to use a wash (a step I'd like to eliminate if I can). I will be using the pallet for mainly 25mm ACW and some 25mm WW2. I prime only in black. My first question is, does the 5A cover well without globbing it on? Second, are these paints worth the extra dough and will I notice a significant difference in my minis using them? I have attached a photo of my current system results. Yeah, it looks okay, but pale in comparison to Kevin Dallimore's. Thanks for any advice.

I use mostly foundry with some vallejo, gw, reaper thrown in. All the foundry skin tones cover well and give nice results, but as for looking drastcally different to your picture? not sure without going lighter (foundry expert flesh has 7 pots) but if you go lighter/paler/cleaner would they look like soldiers on the battlefield or just on parade? foundry mediterranean flesh is pretty good too that way you could start darker
. maybe get the full skin range might save on postage that way? :D |

Could anyone comment on how the following Reaper triads work: 09046, 09047, 09048 29822, 29823, 29824 I am tempted to buy 29822 and 29824 at my local hobby shop as I already have 29823. Sure would be a lot cheaper. Plus, have have read that sometimes Foundry's flesh tones don't provide the best coverage over black primer. |

What you are doing looks good. You paint well-better than average for sure. Are Foundry paints good? Yes
Are they the answer infection? No
if you can paint, you can paint. I buy new colors because it is fun to me and I have the cash. You should use Foundry but you should order a couple of packs of minis like ACW Generals and something else you may enjoy painting then add the paint. it won't hurt as much. I use a wet palette when I paint. I have the same issue when I paint Indians, I don't have three paints that I can use for their flesh and this tires me. I use Reaper Tanned flesh, I like the look. I use Reaper but they work for multiple coats. I water down all my paint NEVER, NEVER, NEVER glob anything. You said glob but from the picture it doesn't look like it. :) One last thing, I have Foundry paints from the sets I bought in 2001. They last forever. I think you should splurge in the new year because ultimately we live but once. :) |

I really like Foundry paints but don't use them for my flesh but I can tell you it covers black MUCH better than Reaper paints will. |

Cheapest place for Foundry paint if you're in the US is Caliver books in the UK- no imaginary Foundry exchange rate and free shipping over 15 quid. link Rich |

Thanks for the compliments. I had been eyeing Foundry's Little Bighorn Personalities pack and have a nice little rathole built up in my PP account, so I figured "What the hell," and ordered the 5A, 5B, 5C triad. My main fear is the Foundry paint is in pots; I very much dislike Citadel paint and it's in pots. |

I need to replenish my Phlegm Greens. I love those as an alaternative military green. |

The imaginary Foundry exchange rate is more generous than the real rate of exchange

Just getting back to report my thoughts on the Flesh 5 triad. Probably the best money I've spent on paints. I am extremely happy with the look, coverage, and quality.

Damn nice painting! did you get the 3 pot flesh or the expert 7 pot set? also highly recomend the austrian white set, its a great off white, which you can further highlight with canvas c and white c. |

Great job. For future price-hunting reference (: Reaper has free shipping over $25 USD but sells MSRP. What I do is wait until their December "12 Days of Reaper" event, where they will ship an OOP miniature and sample paint with a $35 USD purchase. FRPGames has discounts and low shipping. Mebbe they'll have their end of year clearance sale again this year. Also check the paints in the upcoming Bones Reaper Learn to Paint Kits. Good price for what you get. The current Intermediate Skin set has a Tanned Skin triad, although it looks like Rosy Skin is what you're looking for. Just add some brown for a shade color, brown for midtone, and white + brown for highlight color. |

Nicely done! I use almost all Vallejo paints but I've been using the Foundry flesh 5 triad set as well now that I'm painting up Saga in 28mm. I like the results so much that I'm thinking about buying a full set of Foundry paints. And I'm quite a cheap bast@rd. Still thinking about it! |
