Was checking up on new Netflix stuff tonight and they have Iron Sky!!

freewargamesrules13 Jan 2013 3:33 a.m. PST

Sadly not on Netflix UK, you wouldn't believe it was the same company as the content over here is so much less than US version.

David Manley13 Jan 2013 5:10 a.m. PST

It is on LoveFilm though :)

It's a steaming pile of dingo's kidneys too. Says the man who got the DVD and got rid of it again after 1 viewing.

Steve W13 Jan 2013 6:23 a.m. PST

yeah..it is crap

Tgunner13 Jan 2013 6:52 a.m. PST

Yeah, it's awful… horrible. It's like Starship Troopers all over again but at least ST had some interesting combat sequences. iS is just terrible.

And Denise Richards--ST had Denise Richards. No small thing.

ming3113 Jan 2013 7:25 a.m. PST

It wasn't that bad . if you are looking for heavy space combat tnen you will be upset . It is a comedy ..but does have some good points . Not how the funding trailers were pushed so It leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths

DITTO-DITTO-DITTO!!!

YUK!

PigmentedMiniatures Fezian13 Jan 2013 9:09 a.m. PST

Watched it yesterday, it's crap with some cool looking WWWII Nazi stuff.

45thdiv13 Jan 2013 9:10 a.m. PST

I thought it was good. Lots of in jokes and nods to other WW2 films. There are a few good lines. I laughed out load at the end when all the countries had secret space craft.

It's tongue in cheek. And the story is not too bad. The acting is not too over the top.

I say worth watching for free.

Jamesonsafari13 Jan 2013 9:19 a.m. PST

It's a good comedy and political satire.
It's also better than the dreck that hack Lucas puts out.

sharps5413 Jan 2013 9:55 a.m. PST

It is better than another semi-WWW2 movie, FDR, American Bad*ss. While the trailer is OK (in fact the FDR trailer is pretty hilarious) that movie is horrible.

Dropzonetoe Fezian13 Jan 2013 9:58 a.m. PST

Had it on as background noise while painting this morning.

Loved the spoof of the Hitler in the bunker scene… That might be about it. It was pretty bad.

evilcartoonist13 Jan 2013 9:59 a.m. PST

There were also nods to other scifi films.
I enjoyed it; I laughed and was entertained.

And no, this is not "The Great Escape" or "Flags of Our Fathers." This is pure silliness with a touch of satire. I don't know what the critics here were expecting beyond that.

"Ok, who DIDN'T arm their spaceship?!"

Tgunner13 Jan 2013 9:59 a.m. PST

Dina Meyer is the real reason to see ST besides the actions sequences. You gotta love an actress who works so hard that she actually suffered a head concussion while filming!

Dale Hurtt13 Jan 2013 10:04 a.m. PST

This was one I was looking forward to and … yes it was not anywhere near as good as it could have been. It wanted to be a comedy, but it had a political axe to grind that took precedence.

I *almost* agree with you, Dale. I was off-put at first with the Palin-lookalike as the pres, and the way it was portrayed in the first part of the film; but taking the WHOLE FILM into account, everything else (her embracing the ideology, seemingly obsessed with appearance not substance, publicly acknowledging, "of course we lied, it's what we do," and nothing-off-the-board manipulations ---"Black to the Moon" campaign, come on!!--) it was such an over-the-top parody I just could not take it seriously as biased or "grinding an axe" on "that" particular political point of view – If it had been more subtle I might agree with you, but this was so laughably cartoonish…

Unlike yourself, I would not be surprised if the writers and producers, "lean to the right," politically themselves.

GarrisonMiniatures13 Jan 2013 12:22 p.m. PST

Not one of my favourite films.

And I like the 'bad' ones.

Dynaman878913 Jan 2013 1:54 p.m. PST

I liked it, and I usually take offense at movies with such a left leaning political axe to grind – till the line Evilcartoonist mentions comes up…

"Ok, who DIDN'T arm their spaceship?!"

Damn it Finland!

M1911Colt13 Jan 2013 4:24 p.m. PST

Is it wrong that I saw the title to this thread. Then added it to my netflix, before I even looked at the thread? :-)

Cherno13 Jan 2013 4:48 p.m. PST

Yes, you are a bad man, and you should feel bad!

Oddball13 Jan 2013 7:20 p.m. PST

I liked the movie, but it wasn't great. Good effects on the space craft, some funny sceens. An entertaining movie, but not one for the ages.

The movie was a steaming pile of fetid dingo's kidneys but, I kind of liked it in a Plan 9 From Outer Space way.

I was trying to come up with a review, I'll just ditto yours!

boy wundyr x14 Jan 2013 9:00 a.m. PST

I enjoyed it, but it definitely didn't live up to the trailers, which were much more sinister and WWWII feeling. The colour-change business was where they went furthest wrong.

On the plus side, it made me pull out my copy of the Hard Vaccuum rules to start figuring out what minis might work for it.
