What colour flesh would Maryannu (Mitannian) charioteers have?

As they were Indo-European invaders (?), something in the tanned Caucasian line? Or would the base colour be a more Semitic mid/dark brown assuming some sort of racial mixture between conquerors & subject peoples?

Remember that Armenians, Iranians and northern Indians also have Indo-European roots. Yes there has been another 3000 or 4000 years of genetic influence from neighbours etc but I'd still be inclined to show them the same as others from the Near East. Going by Egyptian paintings, they saw the Asians as being lighter skinned than the Egyptians saw themselves, regardless of whether they were Syrian, Hittite or whatever.

I believed southern European would be correct. In fact Middle Kingdom Egyptian reliefs show Amorites with very light skin and brown hair and even blue eyes.

Extremly ticky question!

I painted my in light brown to make a distiction to the lighter hettites and the paler sea people.
But this is very difficult.

Greetings

Thank you Rudi.

You also get the whole issue of tanning. My wife, Italian, is quite fair until the sun touches her & then she can go quite dark. She was once asked, after a holiday in the sun, if she was Sri Lankan!

Me? My Scots' skin just burns, peels & looks pink. And we're both Caucasians.

So I think I'll be doing some experimentation.

Go with the (south) Italian look.

As the Indo-Europeans moved into Europe they mixed with existing populations and acquired features which had developed there. Blond hair had developed probably in the east Baltic a long time before IE expansion. Red hair seems to have been even older and concentrated in the north. There are eastern IE/Caucasian types with fairer hair but the majority are dark – again perhaps influenced by mixture with existing populations.

There is even the debate as to how much of the IE speaking population were descended from the original IE speakers. I certainly wouldn't assume that the Caucasian Mitanni should look like a bunch of Geordies at Magaluf :)
