I remember when I was with the 1/31 Infantry in the mid '80s, the unit's linage included the Northern Russia Campaign in 1919

Here's a link to add on to this. It's from the 31st Infantry Society and it's the "official" history of the regiment while it was in Siberia. That's were the regiment got its nickname: The Polar Bears! PDF link |

Yes, we had a big wooden polar bear that I believe was part of the Regiment's historical artifacts. 1/31 was deactivated long after I was gone. But I'm sure all their "artifacts" went the remaining Bn(s) or a museum somewhere
And the Regimental Crest was a standing polar bear

I was with the 187th, 31st and 58th INF
and frequently attached to the 69th ARMOR
